Well i dont condone it inside the city limits but its a skill you need when it happens like the other day out of turn 4 at darlington when i suddenly discovered that at full noise in second the front will lift well off the deck on the way down the hill.

With a little practice it will become a normal thing rather than a fark why does the front suddenly feel light.

Except the one when I missed the shift into 2nd and crushed my genitalia into the tank...
and the one I did yesterday on the ride with Brett had me drifting onto the wrong side of the road.
and for all you Safety Nazis they were all on a long straight road, in the country with no traffic around , ok....

I picked "Never" in the voting because there's no "sometimes".

Like someone said before its something that you can do when you first get the bike as part of exploring the physics of the bike and how you handle it. Cock up a takeoff, forget you have a pillion or some other brain fart, and it doesn't take much to throw the front wheel up. Doesn't hurt in those situations to know how to control it.

They are INEXCUSABLE in a formation of riders. You make your own choices, but when you endanger other riders thats different. Same goes for riding pissed.

Monos look great, I love watching them, but a bike can only handle so much abuse. When Christian Pfeiffer pops them he doesn't have to rely on that bike taking you thousands of k's to the next show. My 9 has to take me to PI and back. I wouldn't want to have to bail because I've broken something by doing something stupid. I'm really looking forward to PI...

Anyone who rides a sportsbike and doesnt condone wheel stands is most probably a rider who should be in the Ulysses club rather than a sports bike club. You can either do them or you cant. Generally speaking people who cant do them whinge and piss about the dangers of them rather than display there inability to do them and desire to learn. I think all you haters are full of shit and can barely grasp the concept of riding two wheels on the road. Im a keen road rider and race rider so consequently i love to do wheelies. If i see anyone bitching or shaking there helmuts , i,ll be sure to pop it up and show you the social finger on the way past. See if you can catch me whingers!!!!!!! As for the OP: I have no idea how to do a wheelie. I think they look cool. Like everything, there's a time and a place for them. One day, when I'm more confident on my bike and more experienced, I'm going to give it a try. I'm not so worried about the wheelie part -> it's the landing part that has me hesitating right now!

Well, we are now minus one bat and ball...

As for wheelies in their place they are great, I am still learning to do the properly, but must admit I am a little addicted to feeling that front wheel leave the road.

I don't agree with a bunch of TOOLS going out and filming them on a busy public road, but if I'm at the front at the lights with a nice CLEAR (no cars etc) straight road ahead of, I'll ussally have a go. I don't mind looking a right prat when I mess up and get about 2 inches of lift.....lol

And I always give cudos to those who can do them well (except Jase cause we all know it wasn't him at HallsGap )

is not the time or place to maybe impress the cage drivers

ok everyone has had their say and i've kepr quiet cos not got bike yet however:

You gotta choose ya time and place. Not saying its gotta be where no-one can see (although thats not a bad idea if doing it for first time! )
Busy roads are not the place!
Personally I think those that do it on purpose to impress the 'ladies' (outside nightclubs and such places) are tools, any 'lady' who is impressed by tools showing off are not worth knowing.
Quiet roads where if you stack it your not gonna get run over by cages are better.
Its just a case of having common sense.
