Oh....and a Staintune with the rear insert removed is a great pipe. Bike carbs well still, has a bit more all the way through and sounds great. Pretty tough. Although I flatten one. But I also broke 14 other bones at the same time, so I suppose it wasn't a normal crash. But the second one lasted till I sold the KLX. I would buy another in a heartbeat, even over all the new stuff. THe Kato is fun, but it's finicky and shit is exxie for it and despite the defence of them, if we rode it more often and hard, it will break. All our mates who dirt ride regularly break there's too. The jap stuff just tends to hang in there better and have less shitty little issues like starting problems, electrical gremlins, oil leaks and shit like that. I do love riding the big Kato, but, I could ride the KLX harder, for longer. The KTM beats me up.

That bone count is making me reconsider lol. If a rider of your skill can manage to break himself up in so many ways on a dirtie, what hope do I have?

Instead of fluffing around here, get on the DBW forums and ask about beginners bikes there. You'll end up with a much less biased opinion.

What about a DT200r? Wrong badge on the tank but similar to KDX. Heaps around and dirt cheap. Had mine around 5 years, cost $1200 or so and done around 5000km on it, mostly on dirt. Reliable sorta thing that I don't look after as much as I should. Mine has been hotted up and goes well for what it is. 140km/h flat bikkie. A mate of a mate rode it and was doing 100km/h feet on the seat wheelies on it. Bastard....

The DRZ/KLX will be more beginner & user friendly, easy maintenance and plenty of DRZ's about, if you really take to the dirt riding and actually ride a fair bit you wont have it too long before you upgrade to a current modern bike.

You can still read DBW forums without joining? website is down atm so I cant tell.

A bit of an idea whats out there this sold within 2 weeks on a private forum.... 2005 Suzuki DRZ 400e, RXT handle bars, MSC steering dampener, devol radiator guard, devol bashplate, 6564kms $4000

Another one was sold a few months earlier.. 2007 DRZ400 3800kms loads of extras fitted & well maintained.. $5700
