Mel, if it's for assistance - if the roads you are taking are along farms, I wouldn't worry. In the middle of a logging forest, yeah it might get a little hairy if you don't have a tent / food, but as if there won't be farmers driving around, or a house within walking distance if you need help. I reckon you should just go on the roads you want to and not worry about it



(though if you do and you get a puncture a million miles from anywhere, I'll have to come back and edit this!)

The staying on the highway was his 'recommendation'... and not one that I am inclined to follow There is a road that I havent' done before that I have every intention of doing! The last time the 7 broke down I was on my own and in the snowies and out of range and had to hitch a ride up to Cabramurra to get phone service to call the NRMA... so she'll be right I reckon.

Doesn't matter what road your on, punctures happen everywhere, most I had have been on major roads with worn tyres and one brand has been more prone than others. The only reason to stay on major roads is ease of access to services I suppose.

Grab the screw in type kit for tiny holes quick n easy, at least 6+ Co2 bottles (saves alot of hand pumping i.e. 6 psi ea bottle avg in a rear tyre)
Sticky rope repair kit (i use these alot) takes some effort.
Hand pump and guage (goes without saying)

At least with this if your having difficulty, be assured a motorcyclist will stop and help



BTW a tip from me is dont put empty Co2 bottles back in your kit

I think I have 4 in 14 years, 3 of which were on well worn tyres (the other on a new one).

It goes something like, "cool, they tyre is getting low I do not burn outs at the weekend and then get the tyre changed - never seen to make the weekend"

I couldn't tell you even aprox KMs, but well over 100,000 in the last 6 years (damn I've been slack, less than 40k in the last 4 years).

I think freeways can by as bad if not worse that back roads due the the amount of crap dropped and the lane position we sometimes use (off the nornal tyre grooves).

I've had 2 punctures in my rear tyre within the very first 4000 ks on my new bike. Now I'm like paranoid and every time I get the bike out of the garage I think to myself "please don't be flat please"

It was depressing coming out to the bike ITCHING for a ride after a couple of busy as hell bastard weeks only to find the rear tire just as flat as Kirsten Dunst's boobs. I fixed the flat but unfortunately didn't feel like much of a ride afterwards & went and bought beer and went back inside instead.

Makes sense, beer fixes all. I read something about boobs in there, did they get fixed?
