The least I'll wear is if I'm going somewhere I'll be for a while or walking lots. It's ventilated cortech jacket, leather gauntlet gloves, jeans and leather joggers.

Commuting add boots and knee armour. Low-sided it commuting when I first started riding. Good gear including knee armour, jacket, boots, gloves and jacket all saved my bones and skin.

It all depends on where and how you are riding. I have been guilty of joggers, shorts and T-shirt just nipping down to the shops on a hot day but I wouldn't think of going for a decent ride without full leathers. It's all about minimising the risk so if you have no gear on you ride accordingly and keep the speed down and your eyes open for any hazards.

The worst I've done is not put my leather pants back on to go up to shops in my lunch break, just wore work pants. Even then, I rode slowly and was total paranoid about other drivers, lol.

Yesterday saw a Learner on a sports bike in shorts, Tshirt and Thongs !! Creeps me out when I think of the damage that could be done.

When one rides without gear it's called genetic cleansing. Elimination of the foolish by their own hand. JB forever. :kuda:

that is not good...the first time I got bounced off and went bitumen surfing was exactly in this circumstance..just nicking down the shops on a warm day
had all the gear on (thank goodness for gloves!!) except I had normal jeans ...
and I had to wait 6 weeks for the bitumen gouges to heal before the surgeons could re-build my knee ...and let me tell you walking(make that hobbling as it was wrapped))
with a busted knee cap and stuffed ligaments is quite painful . Normal jeans last about ½ second on bitumen

At least the painkillers were free (thank God for the TAC)

I grew up not wearing a helmet in the 1970's, we also rode bikes with no helmet, we were also allowed to play outside with other kids without supervision  even in parks, fall off slides, break our bones, set rabbit traps, shoot rifles, ride in back of utes and say hello to strangers in the street etc, and most of us are still alive ;) The fun police has put an end to most of that.
Generally we did wear a helmet and 2 pairs of overalls riding in the bush and on the road as it was too cold and wet with out it, but there is nothing like riding without a lid.

Rebellious freedom which IMO is the essence of motorcycling, somehow I think that ideal has been lost.
South Australia 20+ years ago you were permitted to ride a motorcycle without a helmet under 25kmph

BUT no where do I see a law saying I MUST wear all this gear when riding my motorcycle other than a Helmet (and undies of course)?

Exactly, ride to the conditions including your gear and your ability.

So naughty... so what you are saying is you are less likely to crash and car drivers are less dangerous with all your gear on? (that is only a feeling of being safe, not actually being safe)
I think we all need to be at high alertness all the time regardless of what gear you are wearing 8)

The best outcome on this subject is simply don't crash, get rider training and experience, and wear all your gear and a hi-vis vest so I can see you sooner ;)

Yes, you're right. With the gear it's that feeling of "If I do crash, it won't hurt so much" :)
