This current incompetent government don't know any better.

They can't stop violence on our streets, they can't fix the public transport system, they can't stop the road toll from climbing....remind me again what they have done and why they are there?

It's easier blame the minority. Apparently it shows the community they are trying to slow the road toll by introducing something they not put any thought into at all.

Brumby and his travelling circus are known for their kneejerk reactions.....he was never voted into his position but I sure as hell hope he is voted out of it!

Useless prick!

[derailment]Just to prove it's not just Victoria that's full of gumby's, City of Sydney council has the hair brained idea of lowering city speed limits to 40 due to numpty's on pushbikes ignoring roadrules and running the gauntlet and coming off second best. So they are in theory looking to effectively increase how long peak hour goes for by reducing the potential throughput of the roads in non peak hour due to some tossbags who cant ride a pushbike or drive sensibly. Half of this would be solved by pissing off the "me first" / "f*k you all" attitude a few people have.[/derailment]

Biker dies after hitting hydrant, wall
MEGAN LEVY The Age June 25, 2010 - 4:14PM

A motorcyclist has died after smashing into a brick wall in Melbourne’s north this morning, bringing the state’s road toll to 160 for the year.

Police said the 20-year-old man was not wearing a helmet when he lost control of his bike and crashed in an industrial estate in Coolaroo about 9.40am.
He was rushed to the Royal Melbourne Hospital with critical head injuries, but died just after 11am.

A Victoria Police spokeswoman said officers were investigating reports that the man may have been hooning in an area where the posted speed limit is 15km/h.
She said police who attended the scene were dismayed to find that the man had no helmet and was also wearing sandals as he rode up and down the busy factory precinct on Maffra Street.
He struck the wall at the end of a 200-metre driveway, and is also believed to have hit a fire hydrant.

The man is the 33rd motorcyclist to die on Victoria’s roads this year, which is 16 more than for the same time last year.

His death comes just two days after Deputy Commissioner Ken Lay blasted the behaviour of irresponsible riders, and appealed to motorcyclists to take more care on the roads.

only decent VISIBLE policing will (assuming that stupidity from some road users is given)

Born and bred in Melbourne. Just frustrates me that we can't get rid of this governmrnt, yet hard working men and women are given the lemonade and sars for nothing.

Can't we vote a "no confidence vote" so Brumby and his crew stoned to death?

Someone send me a petition, quick!!

Well that's a bit harsh, if you want to better your skills there is a chance you might be told "sorry, tough shit, you can do it in a year".

I understand the idea of a study, using a control group, etc. To stop people feeling short changed and improve positive feeling about it all, why not send the letter offering the guidance to 50% of the new riders now, and another letter to the other 50% in 10+ months time?

Just a suggestion to reduce the resentment, just a little.

Four hours should just about cover all the necessities......dickheads!

What about an on going program over months / years before graduating to your full licence, similiar to that of a pilot where they have to have X amount og hours and produce evidence. Not just pass a written test, four hours of someone watch then go for your life.

If it's as hard as a pilots license does that mean once you've passed.........
