Cheers for the reply mate, you have helped make up my mind. I think I will just get the slip ons, really only after the sound and certainly don't want the hassle of a rough running bike. Plus, it was never going to take much to convince as I really like the dual pipe look of the bike.

What sort of pricing were you looking at Ian for the system? Only rang the place I bought my bike off today and they want nearly $1900 for the slip ons

I rang the local import agency (Gas Imports Australia, 13 Mareno Road,Tullamarine Tel: +61 3 9338 1664) who wont sell direct but quoted a retail price of $1895.00. They will give you a list of business who distribute Akra's

Phil sent me the link below US eBay stores quoting a "buy it now" price of around $1100.00USD + $68.00 USD shipping... The exchange is good right now but after reading DiesalKwaka's comments I am not too sure if it is the way to go.
http://myworld.ebay.com/ebaymotors/cyclehead/

I have been quoted around $1200.00 locally for Leo Vince GP Pro slip ons but I do prefer the 4:1 look and sound...

I was given the option way back when i bought my bike, to get the Leo Vince GP's put on as a package deal. I personally think they are 'dogs balls ugly'. Must admit, i haven't heard them other then on youtube, but i just couldn't come to terms with how they looked.

Ian, I didnt mean to turn you off buying the Akra system, it was just a view I have of 1 aspect, the gurgling and poping. As a whole, i like the look of it, and the sound is great. The pipe work from the cylinder heads, the joints and connections, and the muffler is all top quality build. As expected, the price is premium, but hey, thats Akra for ya. I'm just not that keen on having the 'race bike' crackle in the exhaust ALL the time. Perfect out on track and playing on weekends, but trying to ride secret squirrel style and not draw attention to myself during the weekdays just isnt going to happen.
There is actually a sweet selection out there now for the Zed. On Rider Forums, there is a thread I'm watching http://www.riderforums.com/showthread.php?t=54202 of all sorts of goodies we can get for our bikes. Levers, cans.. all sorts of stuff.

Rob,

I havent given up on the Akra but I also want an element of civility with my choice... My benefit is that I am only out on weekends so it may not be hard to live with. If you do take the Akra off and want to move it on, let me know. Be great to get a listen to it before you do though!

Thanks IanH

Hi, I've just ordered an akra full system for my 2010 z1000 from riders discount in the us of a, I was just wondering would anyone be able to tell me if the bike will run properly without doing any damage or is it better to be safe than sorry and buy an air filter and power commander..Any info would be great. Thanks.

I ran mine with the full system for about 8 weeks before my PC5 and dyno was done. What you will find is it will run rich. That is not a problem at all. What you don't want is the engine to run lean.
I wouldn't bother with changing the air cleaner element. Doesn't make any difference. Even had mine on the dyno without an element in there to see the difference. The PC 5 was an improvement, primarily to iron out the lumps in power delivery. It makes throttle control very smooth and predictable down low, and snappy up top.

Hey Hib, do you own the black/silver Z? I've seen one runnin' around the last few days between Parra and Penrith. Was out yesterday on the M4 blowing the carbon out of the TL, and saw it again heading westbound.
ive got a few more personalising mods to do to mine before im finished. Im making a Lexan glass clutch cover, maybe a waterpump cover if i can, and even a flywheel housing. Am waiting on a headlight assembly, so i can bust my original one up to install HID/projector mod to it. If it doesnt work i can throw it out and install the OEM setup. And still in the middle of modding the mirrors, which is on another thread somewhere. Will keep you updated.

My mods have much more subtle... Fitted the Evotech fender elimator and radiator guard yesterday. Together with the (borrowed) bar-end mirrors it now looks much leaner.
I still cant decide on the exhaust front. I had another look at the Leo Vince slip-ons but... Nah.

Believe me, I have tried... Not real good at this yet and apparently my images are oversize or something. I'll work it out.

Yeah I've lived most of my life in the parra area and have been visiting some of the rello's in the last week so it was probably me. The mods your planning on doing sound friggan awsome and I cannot wait to see it when your done.
