Re: Australian Standard Sticker change
would it, why?
The standard hasnt changed just the companies allowed to supply it now. This info is coming from very reliable sources and experts in the industry, and all have said the same. it has just introduced compition into the compliance market, that is all.

Re: Australian Standard Sticker change
the 5 Tick label is only a registered brand - like the Coke logo or the Nike swoosh - nothing else.
They (sai) had a monopoly on Australian standards testing (and charged whatever they felt like to do so). To my knowledge there are now at least 2 others doing aus testing, TUV and I can't remember the other one, they use a little silver sticker.
if its got the right sticker, its legal to use.
IT IS ILLEGAL FOR A RETAILER TO SELL NON-AUSTRALIAN STANDARDS APPROVED HELMETS.

Re: Australian Standard Sticker change
To Clarify a little bit:
This is my AGV helmet the number circled is the number that is recorded every time I pass through scruteneering before a race.
This number is stamped & is a one off number for that helmet & no other.

Same applies to my road helmet a Shoei

We have always been told
No sticker (unique serial number) no race,
Russ I am impatient..... I want to know what the deal will be
& the MOMS for 2010 have not come out yet

Re: Australian Standard Sticker change
What do they do with all the serial numbers they write down? Seems like a time wasting exercise to me.

Re: Australian Standard Sticker change
Daisy, they write the numbers down and in the event of an accident where a rider suffers some kind of major head trauma, they are able to show that the rider was wearing the helmet that was presented at the time of scrutineering.
It's an arse covering exercise.

Re: Australian Standard Sticker change
Here is Terry's response concerning Formula Extreme and Formula OZ

Response from MA NSWRussell,
as long as it has Australian Standards sticker on it as your helmet has then that will be fine.
Looks like everyone is starting to catch up on the changeGood morning,
Under the 2009 edition of the rules, this label would not be accepted as it does not comply with the labels outlined within the book. It is my understanding however that in 2010 the label you have included in the photo will be accepted in the 2010 rules, however, I have yet to see a finalised version of the 2010 edition to confirm.
I hope this helps
Regards
Daniel

Yep, Global SAI will produce a Australian-Standard serial number sticker that will double the cost of your helmet and it'll be cheaper to buy the exact same helmet with a Global SAI-issued five-tick stickerBlurr wrote:Guess that'll be part of the revision

Re: Australian Standard Sticker change
In the ANDRA bulletin it states:
“Since the Standard was revisited in 2006 our label has changed slightly.
We never put the year on our standards mark labels, the way you can differentiate
the new label in that it now shows AS/NZS 1698, the previous label was only AS 1698.”
The decal / sticker that appear on all helmets meeting the new Australian Standard is:"
My HJC has the five ticks, AS/NZS 1698 and has a serial number but NO bar code. Wonder if this complies???

the more likely result will be that serial numbers become a thing of the past.
As stated to me today, not all overseas brands have serial numbers yet they are still eliglable for racing.
I think we are all to hung up on this serial number business and are missing the real point here. That is that the standards have changed in australia and competition bodies will need to adapt. They we now have no control over who certify's our helmets unless you specifically buy one based on whether it has the SAI 5 ticks or not.
Already 1 competion body has accepted change and the rest will follow. They can not, not allow you to compete based on what brand helmet you wear.

My smart arse statement about the serial number sticker wasn't meant to be taken seriouslyBlurr wrote:![]()

You could plead till the cows come home but if they knocked it back then it was a done deal. This related to 2 diferent bodies, the PCRA & FX they used different scrutineers.
Hopefully when the 2010 moms comes out all will be revealed... & it will be interesting to see if there are any changes to engine case guards as well
