My choice would be the 848 over the 748 because i like the way it looks.

Never be able to afford one so i'll just need to dream lol.

Just be aware of the rocker hard chrome issue with the 748,916/996 engines, go the testastretta if you can for maintenance, the electrics is much improved on the later bikes aswell.
Just a tip from someone who owns a Ducati , if you are looking at one for your first big bike "DON'T", they are a demanding machine to ride and the dry clutch requires confidence, we have had an 1198 owner crash his bike after two months due to lack of experience, and another who crashed his brand new 848 300 meters from the showroom.

Be aware that a 10K service with belts is around $1200.00

Hope this helps

As mentioned in a previous thread, all the bikes before the 999 had the "old" wiring loom. Although the older bikes are gorgeous, grab one of the newer ones... I sat through a ducati documentary where even the engineers at the factory admitted that they were glad they were now a modern bike company because the bikes with the old wiring loom had so many electrical problems that were expensive to fix. Fuel injected now too... I "think" the 748's were carborated...

And I reckon the ride on the right would be a lot more fun at least the first few times :D
