I dont know Frogs or Buckets but get the feeling they are a bit out of water Which is no good for either a Frog or a bucket

aaahhh Froggy my green amphibian friend... it's all okay. I asked my question, I got some good answers and I got some not so good. As to how fast everyone can go... I am old and ride very slow...

I am somewhat confused by this talk of no preload. My Suspension guy did work for Kawasaki Racing and now for Honda as their suspension technician and he says that the 7 does have preload adjustment. I am also not sure of what sort of tool people may be, but in my shed full of tools, I am yet to find one stamped "Fucken" Tool... mind you, I have called a tool a fucken cunt at times when I hit my knuckles with it...

The 7 can have it, its not "setup" that way from std.

Quite possibly true, as previously already mentioned, the ZX7RR as run by race teams, does have preload adjustment. The ZX7R does not

"J, L and P models (not sure about H models) have no preload adjusters. The adjusters on top of the forks are ride height only." (R models)
"K, M and N models have front preload adjusters." (RR models)

Problem solved... the forks I am getting are off the N model...

My apoligies, I went off half cocked and got the bollocking I deserve.
Not that anyone would give a fuck what I think anyway. I would have thought the avatar said it all.
Apoligies espec. to MadKaw. I have nothing but respect for you and hardly read the posts let alone who wrote them other than Strikas.
As to times around the island, I have only been on it once, it was a hire bike and I dropped it at Turn 4.
No fucken idea what times I did later but I do remember it cost me a lot of money and I loved every second of it.

Now if someone can explain to me how winding down a bolt to compress the springs and make the front rise (ride height) is different to preloading the spring once the limit of this height is reached I will hop back into my puddle. This is not sarcastic, its a serious question.

No probs Frogs... I thought it was a little out of character..

In regard to the zx7r forks,
Heres how you mod em,
Take apart forks, remove inner metal spacer, replace with a piece of 1" schedule 40 PVC spacer exactly 2 7/8" inches long. Now your ride height adjusters will be true preload adjusters, they do however work backwards. Winding them in makes the fork softer and winding them out makes the fork harder. Now set sag to 1" or 25mm with rider on board. A good way to do this is to take a come along hoist and attach it to some thing like a rafter or beam and use soft ties around triple clamps to attach. Then with zip ties around the tubes with the bikes wheel off the ground slide the ties all the way up an slowly lower the wheel to the ground and then sit on it in a normal crouch. Slowly get off and raise front wheel up off the ground again and measure the distance the ties move down from the wiper. This is your sag. 25mm and YOU ARE READY. The spacer lenght of 2 7/8" will work great for most people as you now have a range of adjustment unlike before. This works because the PVC butts up against a different part of the fork cap that the metal spacer does not. THIS DOES WORK!!!

rather than the adjuster "squashing" the spring against itself, it actually slides the fork over the top of the spring not changing the length of the spring.

i have just bought a 1995 b series zx9r and am struggling to find a set of front forks although, i have found a set of zx7r forks from the same year bike. My question is will they fit (are the same as the zx9r forks) and are they a straight fit/replacement.

Hi Nick and welcome

The fork diameters at the triple clamps of both these forks are the same so yes they will fit.
You will need to look into the lengths though as I'm not sure about those..
I wouldn't think there's be much difference as they were of the same era.. but I could be wrong.
