4 for the most part and then 2 when I'm being lazy... even when I'm using 2 all my four fingers will be above the lever just in case the driver in front decides to do something psychotic

But brakes only slow you down

Normally I use two on the track and three on the road, but I reserve the right to change at a moments notice. At last year's Barry Sheen meet we saw a good example of why not to use only two fingers - with the other two jammed behind the lever the bike wouldn't stop, and if Glen and I hadn't caught it he would have tipped it over in pit lane at walking speed

Seem to have more control & feel than using four, but that could be from growing up on dirt bikes & I never got out of the habit

I use 3.
If I use two I often find that I still have the throttle open a fair way whilst braking. Makes for an interesting experience when you come off the brakes approaching the apex.
