I personally think 'cage' should be reserved for people driving cars in iresponsible ways.

If you treat your car as your own 'sphere of concern' and, through ignorance or arogance, disregard those outside your sphere you deserve the contempt of every motorcyclist and every motorist to have ever crossed your path. If you take this further and injure sombody through your lack of concern you deserve the wrath of every motorcyclist, motorist and the community in general.

If, like most people, be they motorcyclists or not, you take to the road in your car equipped with a good attitude and a modicum of respect for other road users but are unfortunate enough to be involved in an accident, any sort of accident, you do not deserve our contempt or wrath, but instead our sympathy.

To err is human, and frankly everybody will make mistakes on occasions. Sometimes these mistakes will go unnoticed, sometimes they will result in near-misses, and sometimes they will result in accidents. I think we need to see beyond the simple fact that an accident occured and consider the attitudes of those involved.

And just think, I've typed all that dribble wth my left hand :)

in answer to your question....re 'cages'
it has been around for as long as I have been riding....
and no-one I know seems to know who or where it started
but it is a term used by riders to describe cars (as you know)
and only seems to be used if the riders are putting cars in a category
(sorta like we get lumped with bikers and bikies)

All i know is that it (the word cage) is used a lot and comes along with that other comment about us....
ONLY bikers know why dogs like to stick their heads out in the fresh air...
whilst out on the road

cheers

I would have thought that it comes from the fact that compared to being on a bike, being in a car is like being in a cage.

I agree, but it is generally used as a derogatory description of a car, isn't it ?

I dont read it at its most negative "car drivers deserving to be locked in cages", Rather as we Scoot riders are less restricted by being outside in the elements & chosing NOT to be as restricted as car drivers can be.
But like Dave 3 said when you gerneralise you leave yourself open to criticism.
Cheers Brett

I dont think it's particularly derogatory, just a word used to describe a car.
ie driving MY cage

it's just that when motorcyclists end up talking about people in cars, its often because said person did something really really moronic, so its often used in a derogatory context.

fair 'nuff ....

I have spoken to some people who think cage is derogatory, obviously others dont.

It is, therfore, hereby decreed that the phrase 'cage' and related phrases will not be seen as derogratory towards the owners of said cages when reference to cage is made within the context of KSRC.

OK, I need help, the boredom is killing me

Shite..

Sorry to hear mate.. Hope you make a speedy recovery..

At the end of the day some people just shouldn't be driving..

People who don't know how to merge..
People who can't pull into a 3 lan road, when there are vehicles only in the outside 2 lanes.
People who sit beside trams and refuse to overtake.. As well as those to insist on stopping for the tram before it is even close to coming to a full stop... that caused 1 of my accidents.. watching out for the idiot trying to get into my lane, then the idiot in front decides he needs to stop for the tram as far back from it as possible, as quickly as possible and thud.. The 'ol VK is up his arse..

I feel for ya..Hope you get that upgrade and everything works out for the best, for you :)
