in an interesting twist - it seems that some air in the front tyre has actually caused the massive cracks to slowly compress and they are now almost invisible to the human eye.....

but its all good, they are only being used for display purposes cough*bullshit*cough

got some more good progress tonight.....the fuel tap that was fitted to the tank.....had no internal fittings or filters, and no holes in the tank to feed into the tap

so binned that one. Luckily the 4th has a good supply of *stuff* - so another tap with the same bolt-centre dimensions has been used. It also has the fuel fittings and filters fitted. Drilled a couple of feed holes......bolted it up and ready to go.
The quick-fill tank caps went on tonight.....I have fallen in love with a new gasket sealer

Stag Jointing Paste !

this stuff is fo shizzle ma nizzle !!

The fuel cap is a dinkum aircraft filler cap - not some bullshit taiwanese rip-off. Classic part from the 70's.....the end look of the tank with the old parts cleaned up and new paint - is spectacular.
Dropped the forks through the clamps about 30mm. This has settled the attitude of the bike a lot. I think it may well have been set up to use H2 forks, which have shorter staunchions than the Z1000 style that are currently fitted ? In any case - the bike now sits nice and level with the motor and most ancillaries fitted.
Have started on the drum brake modification as well - the rear drum brake on the H2/Z1 is normally a simple rod-operated mechanism that is easy to set up. When Kent set up this bike all those years ago - they modified the rear drum brake to be a cable-operated design. Most of the bits were in the boxes - except the modified drum brake housing. There needs to be a solid locating 'lug' on the external face of the drum housing, so that the drum end of the cable can be located and fixed. This allows the inner to move and operate the brake actuating lever when the brake pedal is pushed down. Hopefully this will be welded up by the end of the week......
Everything is coming along well. Electrics and braided front lines will be completed this weekend, the carbs are on and ready to roar, all I need is an exhaust fitted and a battery..............some BP 98...............and the old rig should be roaring a merry tune sometime on Sunday arvo !!
I promise to get some pictures up over the next couple of days, at the moment I am more interested in finishing all the small jobs......
