That's the problem with shoulder injuries its the surrounding muscles that suffer. Traps, rhomboids & lats; a lot of people develop myofascial pain syndromes (MPS) in these affected muscles from shoulder injuries.
I have a pin my L shoulder, as a result of a car accident and suffer secondary (MPS). Working within the health sector gives me a better understanding of it. Most specialists know very little about MPS and just dismiss as general pain & put you on pain killers.
Physio didnt help me much and neither did narcotic pain killers.
In my acute stages of my injury I used acupuncture which improves blood flow and reduces pain. When muscles are tight they are constricted/deprived of oxygen (blood flow) and then send pain signals to our brain telling f@ck this hurts! When they are in a constant state of spasm (like knots) they are deprived of nutrients and your not moving it because your brain is telling "dont do it because of pain" this is when wasting starts.
Acupuncture for me helped reduce my pain which allowed me to do light exercise with my arm, this moved onto weights and swimming. My shoulder is by no means perfect, I know its the exercise that keeps it strong and reduces my pain levels.
If you venture down the acupuncture path find someone who is reputable, not someone who will sell you snake oil.

Good physio's use dry needling (acupuncture) these days as well as hands on myofascial release techniques and never use 'machines' (ultrasound etc) like they used to. Unfortunately there are still plenty that are stuck in the bad old days and need to be avoided. Blackster has given you great advice about the complexity of shoulder injuries so do yourself a favour and do some research to find a reputable practitioner and start getting some treatment. If you were down this way I could help you out with where to go, but I have no idea up that way. I'd start by asking Blackster where he gets his acupuncture done and if it's close enough, go there.

Dry needling which was done by a physio didn't give me much benefit, perhaps his technique was poor or I just had too many knots in multiple muscles that a the needle and the moxa (heat bead) couldn't address alone.
What I found most beneficial was electro acupuncture (small amount of voltage driven down multiple needles) in target muscle knot areas; reading up on it at the time it increases blood flow X10 fold compared to moxa/needle alone. It gave me the longest amount of relief and allowed me to push my shoulder.
I don't use an acupuncturist now, but I did see him intensively for 2-3 months. He got me to where I am now. Point fitzy here is a good acupuncturist knows what areas to target and despite me being the biggest skeptic before this works!
The guy I used is located on Canterbury Rd, Bankstown; somewhat of a distance from you, so if you haven't got someone to drop you off it will make it hard.
KSRC not only give you bike help there is plenty of medical help. Now that I think about it perhaps I should be asking for medicare cards & start bulk billing

im a big skeptic when it comes to acupuncture though granted i don't know much about it (like most things) all i know is they stick needles in ya, but yea might give it ago gonna bring this up with the docs since i didn't mention it cause i though it was due to my sleeping position as i dont have free movement of how i would normally sleep, will see what he recommends if he, like blackster said prescribes me pain killers then ill end up at the physio or the acupuncturist ,
decided with the bike ill change the can and leave the fairings as its not really an issue but i will have to get them changed when i go to sell it i suppose
right about now wishing my bullet proof mentality was reality

Your key to recovery is exercise. As soon as the doc gives you an ok go for it. If you don't know what to do get some expert advice. Like a martial arts studio or Tai Chi. Jim Beam is better than pain killers. Cheers.

Plus one on the electro needling. Fitzy don't get the three things confused. Acupuncture is about specific points on your body which might not make sense ie you could have a needle in your hand for your neck.
Needling is about releasing the muscle generally it spasms when released.
With electro it's about getting blood flowing to a muscle to help it.
I also can vouch for cupping I've had some great results

Physio will use ultra sound or massage. Problem with shoulders is that there is a lot of referred pain so the bit that hurts may not be where the injury is! The muscle goes into spasm to protect something else and sometimes forgets to relax. Good masseurs can also sort this out.
