A similair accident in Geelong yesterday morning....

Teen injured in bike smash

Friday, May 19
Peter Begg

A LEARNER motorcyclist without a helmet is lucky to be alive after a high-speed crash in Bell Post Hill early yesterday.

Police first saw the 19-year-old rider on a high-powered bike without a helmet at the intersection of Ballarat and Anakie roads, about 2.30am yesterday.

When police asked him to pull over he refused, made a quick U-turn and took off at high speed.

Police said they later saw the teenager where he had crashed about two kilometres along Anakie Road at the intersection of Braund Avenue in Bell Post Hill.

A Victoria Police spokesman said the teenager had crashed into a steel barrier and was thrown 10 metres from the motorcycle, which came to rest about 70 metres further down the road.

Police said he was riding a 600cc motorcycle. Learner riders cannot ride a motorcycle with an engine capacity greater than 260cc.

Police said investigations would continue and charges were pending.

A Rural Ambulance Service spokesman said the teenager had a possible fractured leg, cuts and abrasions and head injuries and was taken to Geelong Hospital in a stable condition.

whats strange is that these people were both over 30. usually these kind of antics are from less mature people.

Age does not equal maturity.

Apparently they skidded 70 m or so. Sounds like alcohol and speed were factors too.

this man who you guys laugh at could be your friend, father, brother.

please have some respect.

yes he was stupid to ride (with someone else with him) but i think in death he deserves some peace... from the pointing... and the humiliaton of his stupidity. (sorry had to add that it was pretty dumb)

but i have also done the same, but only around my street, at 20kays after washing it to dry it off.. i never done it again after that time,

but i admit i did do it and it was stupid (and i was younger) but i didn't deserve death as a reward for my stupidity. i assume either did this man.

Yeah a momentry laps of judgement can have dire consequences as this dude found out. It is sad but you hear of so much stupidity that you eventually start to get fed up with it. I believe in each to their own to a degree, you want to ride with no safety gear go for it but don't come crying to me when the shit hits the fan as you know the risks and you made the decision. My 2 cents.
Paul.

yeah agreed. he's got no one to blame but himself. poor sod.

happened to a friend of a friends a while ago. showing off with other mates, standing on seats and the like.

these guys rode often and should no better. although sometimes looking cool can cloud your judgement.

dude, we arent "laughing" at his stupidity..we are infact amazed, bewildered, confused, enraged, curious , presumptuous, and maybe just a little sadened, by his actions...but we in kno way find it funny.

he did sumthing stupid (for a bike to skid 70m he was doing more than 20km/h) ..and he didnt deserve to die, but thats the gamble u take when u do sumthin so silly...if it wasnt so stupid, it wouldnt be so illegal!!

Once again mate i have your back. No one i would consider a mate would find this funny in the least.

We all need to look at this and learn a lesson. No matter what seems like a good idea at the time can end up like this so easily.

We as motorcyclists must remember we are already on the black list by doing what we all love. Everytime some thing like this happens it effects us all. We need to always think twice before we act so as to not demine our name as motorcyclists further.

just bad luck is all poor bloke. In my younger days ol mate and I would ride with a skin full and once, at 2 or 3 am, we got the bikes out and without helmets started doing laps up and back the short street we lived in. We got tired of it after a bit and parked the bikes in the yard, went up and got back on the piss. sure enough, 10 minutes later... "knock knock KNOCK" the cops at the door. We got away with it, no one confessed and besides two red hot bike engines there was no evidence. I don't look back and say I was stupid, although we were, and back then I would tell anyone who judged me for it to piss off and mind their own business. It was just life, you do what you do and sometimes you do crazy things on the spur of the moment. It's just the luck of the draw if you live through all your mad stuff.

I don't know why people here get all flustered and opinionated about stories like this one, it's not like they knew the guy, were personally affected by his death. he was just another wild boy who played the odds and lost. RIP young fella
