Forget about dragging your knee as a priority and focus on getting smooth. Quick will come. Do some track days and perhaps get some additional training. Save the knee scraping for the track.
Your RS3 is heaps loud enough. I had the same set up as yours and it was plenty loud. Any more and you'll just attract unwanted attention.

One would imagine that with all of that time to practice polishing, you must be pretty good at it by now!
With regards to getting your knee down. For sure getting your knee down looks cool...........when you have the bike leant over far enough to warrant it that is...........otherwise you just look like a real tryhard!!!!
Track days or rider training schools are probably the best way to improve your riding. At a track day a few things will become immediately apparent to you.
1. You are really crap and the fast guys are mind numbingly fast!
2. You slide a fcuking looooong way when you fall orf!!!
3. The tyres actually can be leant over further than when on the side stand and they will still grip
4. You are really crap and the fast guys are getting faster!!!!
But at least it may give you some more confidence to lean the bike a little more.................

I just answered both your questions!

READ the answers again and perhaps it may sink in the second time!
Maybe I can put it a little more directly for you Kishy.

The pics of your tyres, look like the pics of the tyres from someone still utilising training wheels as a riding aid. So maybe if you stop hanging around St kilda n got out on the track and rode your bike, you may learn how to lean the bike over far enough to warrant dragging a knee.
Hope that clarifies things for you!
Oh and BTW, I don't touch alcohol. It is the curse of the devil!

Kishy wrote:Question 1. ...Is that last bit of unused tyre what makes all the difference? Could it be that it shouldnt make
a difference & that the problem is more likely positioning of the leading knee?
Yes, that last bit of unused tyre is making all the difference. It is all about 'lean angle', and while ever you have 1.5cm chicken strips, you simply are not leaning over far enough to get your knee anywhere near the deck. The problem is not positioning at all. Get your footpegs on the deck first, once that level has been reached, your knee-scraper will soon follow.......

At my next service I plan on gettin the can cut in half. Anyone done this mod before?...
No, I have not done this mod, but it seems to be a waste of a perfectly good exhaust to me

, maybe you should check with a motorcycle exhaust manufacturer first, and see what sort of reduction in hp you could expect from this mod. Cans are built to a certain length for a reason, and one of the first things I ever learnt in motorcycling was "Louder does not mean Faster".........it generally means *slower*........
A cheapie can from a wrecker would be the go, chop it up mate, but not a Yoshi

Roll your boot over so the side of your foot is on the peg instead of the bottom so that the sole of your foot is on the frame above the peg. (I am pretty short).
But as someone said the main one is if you are "trying". Stop trying and just concentrate on getting around the corner and the first time it DOES touch down you will shit yourself !!!
Also getting your knee down feels (and is) wicked but it is not really "fast" as such.
Micky D didnt put his knee down too much either... when asked in an interview why he said "I am from Qld and if you put your knee down there you lose it" (or similar).
Obviously I love it

The loudness of the can has nothing to do with the size of it (well, relatively speaking) it has more to do with the amount of Baffle in it.... You can safely remove baffle without ruining your expensive pipe.... and it can have the baffle put back in again if you are ever fined for having too loud a pipe...
In fact, having a smaller pipe will make it sound higher pitched....and I am sure that you want that deep booming sound....
