At the end of the day they're not interested in directly affecting the road toll, as Bretto said they're more interested in fucking every poor bastard over for the crime of having an interest in life, to the point that noone is game to go out any more.
These things are little more than pointless publicity stunts whereby we are told how ignorant we are etc, etc, etc and how we're going to self destruct at any moment.

I don't know their motivation, coz I can't see inside their heads, but the effect to me has been to rarely ride my powerful bike (ZZR12) but ride my gutless shitboxes coz my licence is safer, and temptation doesn't get the better of me. I don't enjoy my ZZR so much any more coz I am paranoid about licence loss- enforcement has improved markedly over the last few years. The world sure is turning into a place where one can't be responsible for one's actions and over zealous laws and enforcement lead to a nanny state where your hand is constantly held....
I do however enjoy my CB400 not because it is fast but because it is so good in the corners- acceleration isn't fantastic, but I'm faster up Glorious and the like coz I don't have to slow so much in corners....
Having said the above I will be very interested to see what happens on Sunday, and will have a better opportunity to form an opinion of the Police's attitudes at Glorious and the like..... :?

Pretty long maybe you have something more important to read in the "Neka's got a bone" section

RG since i'm the only one that sprayed in this post I guess your comments are addressing me. Now thats fine & yes my post was being sarcastic.

I haven't been booked or affected by the recent events (touch wood) but thats probably only because i knew what was coming & decided to park the bike over Xmas ride else where after the school holidays were finished.
These are the reasons for my view. They are:

I have Owned & commuted on a roadbike for 19 of the last 24 years.
I have been a full time employee for the Queensland State government for the past 18 years. (So i understand policy/process & budget issues)
Yes their has been an increase in motorcycle fatalities over the last coupla years to which an indepandent report was undertaken to get some answers & make the Beattie Govt look like it was doing something.
The report tabled to the state government said that the 50 odd motorcycle fatalities were ALL caused by "Rider Error" not one had any imput from an outside source. Now C'mon sure maybe 49/50 were rider error but 100% C'mon ffs. How can that be credible ?.

What have we seen as a result of this report being tabled .... Well the media pounded its chest & made the Premier pass the buck to the minister for police who asked the Police Head to fix it .... or else.

Then what happened ... oh that's right Motorcyclists were targetted or discriminated against by a huge increase in patrols & pressence on the 2 major road sections utilized by weekend bike riders. Mount Glorious Stretch (North Brisbane) & the Nerang Hinterland stretch on the Gold Coast.
Now were the police interesting in rider education & a free sausage for us, DFont be silly they were there to get rid of the RATBAG element for 6 months till they get their licences back or to push them away from those high traffic areas. If this was harrassment enough the boys used every effort to chase motorcyclists away by the use of a home made "wooden apparatus" to check the angle required to measure the rear mudflap. Oh & dont forget after market Blinkers & exhaust systems. Those 3 things can all contirute to a rider error (referring to said report noted earlier) which may lead to some bike rider punting it over a cliff & becoming Ambulance Stuffing. FFS.
Ok so whats this next bit about ... well since big brother cant be seen to be in existance lets show how approachable the police & Mr Beattie are by handing out few lousy sausages & showing a Wayne Gardner home movie to those too slow to get booked by speeding or too scared to actually make their bikes look better. In other words those who havent been booked in the last 6 months by the discriminating practices condoned all the way down from The Premiers office.
Sure these guys will benefit from the video & may improve their riding (especially since the looney element isn't about to buzz them going into a 35km corner). Hell, they may even get some pleasure out of the "Radar guns" & tyre kicking the "blue light Honda specials" but ffs dont expect the guys who have been dodging Taxis, Volvos & the Merging practices of QLD drivers for 20 years to run up & ask for a sausage & a "hug from the Minister".

I recently spend the best part of a two weeks riding to Super Doopers at phillip island & sharing a house with a coupla QLD Police Motorcycle Traffic Police. The views above are mine not theirs & i found them to be top blokes with a job to do.

I'm not having a go at the Police. They mostly do what they are told & "Hats off" to them. I'm not against Beattie as such he's a politician & in turn needs to be seen in a positive light.
But just beacuse It's "Mr Beattie's lolly pop time" doesnt mean I am sucking anything involved with this Reactionary Crock of SH!T.

SO RG are you going to front up for a hug & a sausage ?. If they were serious about preventing fatalities they would be re opening existing & building newer racing/closed riding Facilities for "Jo Weekend Rider" to go & have a blast with his mates in a safe, controlled environment. Not closing them & pushing track guys onto public roads. They would be Giving away Free Helemts. Leathers & Spine Protectors. They would introduce yearly roadworthy Certification to maintain a higher standard of equipment to be fitted to bikes. They would untroduce an ANTI SQUID LAW where they take off all your gear & make you ride home naked to emphasize the point of the value of Skin & tyring to maintain it.

See theres Lots of positive things they can do, but no lets run out the same old "Stick & Carrot method". Smack em hard with fines for nonsence then offer a free sausage
Cheers Brett

My comments were not addressing you.
You are entitled to your opinion, and that is a very constructive post.
My objective is not to pick an arguement with anyone.

This event has been postpone to a later date due to expected wet weather, I may or may not be there.
Whether I'll be there or not doesn't matter, becoz poeple from MRAQ will be reading this thread and will take necessary steps to try to make life easier for everyone.

Right on the money Brett - except I have an extremely low opinion of traffic police period.

There are ways and means of doing your job and I must say my experiences have not been conducive to professionalism. (Thats the most political way I could put it :P )

I have nothing but contempt for the blatant revenue-raising gearing of current QLD road rules.

Bikes aren't wanted and emptying riders' pockets is the quickest way to get rid of us - hell its working on me (court case pending).

If govt. or cops really gave a stuff about rider safety they would be educating DRIVERS, the real killers of motorcyclists. /rant

Am I going anywhere near the 'popular' riding spots again any time soon (even for a free snag that my tax paid for?) No.

One of the reasons for me getting another bike was the cops, i put the standard tail assembly back on the six because of them, and won't take it out on weekends because it's loudish. I don't hoon or ride recklessly, but to them i'm a target because my bike is modified.

I won't be touching the zed in any way so i can actually go for a ride and not be paranoid about the over zealous enforcment of rear muguards

Where did you hear that? It is still advertised on the Qld Transport website.

Yep the mudguard bullshit is just harassment.....NSW has the same with mufflers...FFS

its just a game and you have to look at it like that. All advanced civilizations in history eventually choke under their own bureaucracy, it's unavoidable. Have Gov, will make endless laws. No point complaining too much, just play the game! If they haunt Mt Glorious on sunday well just don't be there. Simple? Don't ride up there and get busted and say "Bloody cops ra ra ra." Ask Jase how many cops are on the country roads, on patrol. He'll know the number. Or look up the stats online and work it out for yourself. In the city and on the hot roads there is plenty but up some lonely twister out on the border ranges you would be lucky to see one. So if you want to play, get outta town where they don't care. And if you pass a cop on some lonely twister and you were speeding and he has you with the roof mounted gun then use your lead to squirt up some farmers driveway and hide! It'll take them 20 seconds just to turn around and get after you and you'll have a good lead on them. Just slow down in the straights cause there they will peg you a lot sooner and will put the lights on and you wont have a hope.

It's just a bloody game is all

O, and if you want to lose your licence because you don't like the look of your mudguard, well what can I say, it takes all types to make a world.

Ponti you have to travel to go to either hinterland anyway and as chamelion says head for the border ranges its a long way from the picnicers in thier range rovers.

I have settled a bit now anyway and will head up for a hug and a suasage on sunday...and hope its a wayne gardner dvd.

Its no good sleeping with the enemy....dont supose they broke any laws on the way down a bit like school prefects stealing ya smokes and keeping them.

When I first heard about this, for some reason, I had a flashback to that scene from The Great Escape where they let the prisoners out to stretch their legs, and then they machine gunned them. Dunno why. Perhaps I'm getting a bit too paranoid. If you do go, watch out for suspicious men in uniforms with german accents :D .

Nice analogy. I have felt like Steve a few times doing the runner.

Warning start of rant/:...

Meet the cops and get a free sausage? hahaha that's funny, prolly want you to bend over to get it too while they get their Certified AS9000 Calibrated Scientifically designed wooden device to check angle and depth of entry

Seriously they are trying to do something for the area or at least appear to be. It is not just about bikes they are concerned with it is the whole community which has to deal with bikes and fatalities and that is their job and I for one would not like to do it!

A Big however and looking at the flip side of it all which I have seen and I am sure a lot of you have seen is the harassment policy at work. I am certain it is their intention to harass us sportsbikes out of existence, not even the anti-smoking lobby has had that much success. "Riding may harm you wallet".."Riding may kill your licence".."riding may cause you a fender replacement emergency"...

I have noticed in the last 12 months around here a cop will almost cause an accident to turn around to get at any sports bike (but not cruisers, loud ass Hardlys with 1%'ers onboard, dirty's or scooters) it is a wonder they are not all on compo' for strained necks, every time the sportsbike was doing nothing wrong from what I could see as I am sure they are all aware of the harass policy in force. :?

A sneaky way is to get a big orange vest and write Q-ride on it (taxes on wheels in training) and they will leave you alone, they will wait a few months for you to get a powerful sports bike and a false sense of security then nab-harass ya ass!

Instead of complaining it is time to do something right?
Then get your friends etc to contact the MRAQ, they need large numbers of support to be taken seriously and to get off their collective asses to go into bat for us. A bit of response feedback from MRAQ would be nice to know they actually are there or are doing something, maybe an invitation from this forum for a representative of MRAQ to come and reply to peoples concerns?
I have been firing the odd e-mail to state members and MRAQ for the last few years with all these concerns and more, if you care and want to do something I suggest you all do the same. 8)

Besides we all don't like what the pollies are doing?
Why do you think they are doing this? it's public/media pressure, Mr Beatie seems like a reasonable bloke and I am sure if he was presented with ALL the facts he would see our side of it and may do something, then again maybe not..

So what should we all do? Return the pressure for tracks and a fairer go in this nannied state at all levels of politics and the media.

The media which would be a good start to get a story angle of closing tracks and increase in rider fatalities ra ra ra, does not have to be 100% true statistically but as chopper said " never let the truth get in the way of a good story". It has to be a campaign not a one off rally that slows traffic. 8)

I can see a big irony with Qride and the government, but motorcyclists over the years have always been a soft target for pollies.

/rant over..

BTW we still have pineapples at 12 to the dozen! :?

Speed limits are the law. If you speed, you choose to do it.

Having a rear mudguard of the appropriate size/angle etc is the law. If you cut it off, you choose to do it.

Having an exhaust that meets ADR's is the law. If you replace it with a louder one, you choose to do it.

If you don't want to contribute to the government cash register, make the choice not to and stop blaming the rest of the world for something you've done. You lot sound like a bunch of farken sooks.

If you choose to brake the law, regardless of how ridiculous the law is, and you get caught, take it on the chin and admit that it was you that fucked up.

Jase is dead right.

I would also add that the relatively *large* numbers of biker deaths in SE Qld in the last 12 months are *directly* resposnsible for the active police presence on your favourite roads........the authorities are not just going to *ignore* this - they have to be *seen* to be doing something.....

I said it before and I'll say it again.......

Do your fanging on a Tuesday afternoon - ain't no-one around whos gonna give a stuff about it then.......try it and see

Sorry but the outta towners Jas & Poddy have missed the point. Read page one boys, the point isnt that we wont take it on the chin if we choose to break the law (even if it's only being picked on at the moment to Harrass sportsbikes off the "Blackspots") & we get penalised for it. Be the laws being ridiculous or not.

BUT that we wont be participating in this latest chapter of "Their GAME". I much prefer bad cop/bad cop at least everyone gets to keep some dignity. The newest relevation of a "blue light Suasage sizzle Family fun day" is a complete FARCE only put in place to try & balance out the blatant harrassment.

Cheers Brett

Jason, I have always copped my discrepancies on the chin and have never complained about that and see it as a fair thing as I did the crime I wear the time, but I will politely say; you do not or have not experienced the nanny states wrath...

Gos, this happens every day, it is like you have to accept you are on the road ya will get pulled over no matter what on a sporty just like if ya worked in the Australian Mint and went through security as you enter and leave, then they go through ya like a dose of salts just for good measure.
Same cop same place on your return journey will do the whole 20 minute thing again even though he did it before on you just 1hr before, no ticket just a pocket full of hassle.

Tell me what that is and when he allows a loud cruiser who was 500meters in front of me to pass straight by?

I will tell ya, they aint interested in anything but sports bikes, they have an agenda. I suppose it is likened to truckies and their log books of a decade ago and the injustice they cried about (or sooked aye) now they have the safety booms and ya see a bunch of trucks sleeping/waiting for their time to pass under it.

Yep and it's against the law to lie in court unless you are are a well known cunt qld bike cop who hangs up in the mtns.

This is not having a go at you jason and what you do at work in SA.

Most of us cop it sweet when we get done....i know i did in the last bike blitz in the gold coast hinterland.

I know you won't see a green 7 up there on sunday  .
They can stick there sausage sizzle up their arse!! :x
