Dont ya just love politics. It is just a matter of whom calls who's bluff. The gov't may loose some tax dollars, and of course PR. Lindsay just stands to loose money. If the track is no longer used as a racing venue, he may still develop it for other ventures. I think that is why perhaps the council zoning issue. If it doesnt make money as a track, imagine how much it can earn as other things?? Albeit that demand may suffer if it is not used as an international venue and so prices may drop a little. But the land alone is worth a fortune!!!!!

Cheers

I was actually amazed at how many people there were at the caravan park who weren't there for the superbikes...they didn't even know it was on!

So there must be something there for the cashed up grey nomads

Wow I can picture the thousands of leather-clad motorbike riders flocking to Phillip Island to do golf, watch koalas, and see the penguin parade.

Is there any update in this P.I. situation?

I want to book holiday for this soon and it makes a difference which two weeks I book. If we're at P.I. I'll book 15th-29th (2 weeks plus Fri before race weekend), and if Eastern Creek I'll book 11th -22nd and have a holiday around the race weekend.

I checked the MotoGP site and the Phillip Island circuit site and they both promote the race as being at P.I. on Sept 17th.

It's not this year's race that's in doubt... it's covered by the current contract between the FIM and Phillip Island, but that contract runs out at the end of this year. For the race to continue to be held there, a new contract has to be signed. This is what's causing the spat between Fox and the Vic government.

For any FIM world championship roadracing events to move to Eastern Creek, though, the place would need to have a shitload of work expended on it... a resurfacing is practically a given. They'd also need to get rid of the high-tension tower on the outside of turn 3, increase the runoff on the entry into turn 7... and this is before issues like the crumbling spectator mounds come into it...

The racing's staying at Phillip Island. This is what's convincing Lindsay Fox he has the Victorian government by the balls.
