Hey man, welcome to the Klub.
I am on the northside as well, and often visit a mate at Warner. Been slowly talking him into bikes for ages.

Agreed they are VERY heavy...
My intention is for it not too fall over!!
I don't ride a bike a can't pick up.
That is my first and possibly best advise to give to potential riders.

Welcome Mark, as you can gather there are a few Qlder's here to keep you company. Enjoy the stay and watch for those car things, they can hit hard. So do trees when it comes to that.
