Since i got my BMW flip=top lid, I never take the helmet off but I look like something out of cone heads with the lid flipped up - before that i filled up at very specific servos who got to know me - never asked me to remove my helmet - one servo attendand even said he'd never had a motorbike rider not pay but didn't have enough digits to count the cars...

Get friendly with your local suppliers and you won't have any problems.

I put my lid either on top of the fuel pump or on the mirror before i fill up, and get a ventura rack and bag solves all those where do i put me fish and chips, drink, kitchen sink type problems and are well worth the money.

As a couple of the smarter Gents have said, I hang my Lid upside down by the buckle from the leftside pillion footpeg, it stays there even while riding (smoothly). I Had to force myself to do it for a month or so but now its second nature. Got sick of my Shoei falling off everything else i tried.

How much fuel can we get away with? $20? $30? Most bikes don't have fuel tank more than 19L.

I've only come across one servo in Brisbane that have such rule, SHELL at Coronation Drive(Milton) . Obviously I'm never going to that servo again.

Don't know how true it is but on A Current Affair the other night the said that for every dirive away of $50.00 the Servo needs another 45 customers at $50.00 each to make it up.
I don't think its so much a theft worry either, imagine petrol fumes trapped in your helmet ignighting with all that foam and fabric. It becomes and insurance thing for them.

Well I'm fucked. I got no rear pegs...... so I don't use a helmet.

I was going on a fair stint one so I removed my helmet and at on the bike to get it upright so I could fit that extra half-a-litre in where the air bubble would normally be. The servo refused to turn the pump on - when paying I asked why and was advised it was because of the danger of me riding off.

I tried to explain that they had my bike, my numberplate and my face on camera yet they wouldn't have a bar of it. I just don't go there any more.

I rarely can be stuffed taking helmet or gloves off at servos and have never been questioned or denied service . A friendly greeting to the staff when i walk in may help when I sign the credit card slip still wearing gloves , still never been even slightly challenged .
Signing D. Duck or M. Mouse doesn,t even faze em .

Either put your helmet clip on and put your helmet strap over your mirror or go to Mobil and pay at the pump with your card....

My choice is the ground near the back of your bike. Chances are you won't trip over it, it has no chance of falling anywhere and if it gets grotty clean it. A bit of shit from the ground is nowhere near as bad as the sweat that comes off your head when you're riding.

If it's wet or gravelly etc I would as a last resort hang mine by the chin bar from the pillion peg, but as a general rule I don't hang my helmet or perch it anywhere where there is a chance of it falling.

i just leave it on. if they dont authorise the pump then i give them a spray until they do.

I got an M2R flip top for $200 and haven't had a hassle since, it's awesome.

i just put it on the seat. the wool seat cover i have makes the seat a lot less slippery. i can just push the helmet into the wool and it sits there. when i go into the servo i carry it. good idea too in case someone decides to nick off with it.

Flip-tops rock - especially for girls wearing make-up (I ride to work and I wouldn't wish my ugly unmade face on my colleagues)

I used to be able to pay at the pump at my local BP until the bastards took the machines off the pumps...now I have to go in and pay so I leave the helmet balanced on my seat. It's a fairly flat hardish seat so it sits there quite happily

I don't know about the rest of you but the righthand side pillion peg when folded out is the perfect spot to place your helmet if just for a short while...just rest it there on the mouthpiece of your helmet...Hope this helps!
