Put the same $ and effort into a modern sports bike and see what you end up with...bonester wrote:Horn. Shows how much potential the ZRX has.

I agree but I would still prefer a ZRX. Must be getting old. Could have a sportbike if I wanted one. Just don't want one.

I love old dungers As much as the rest, but I just what this guy is doing is odd.
A unique challenge yes, but pikes peak? Zrx? Where the hell do they come up these ideas?

Re: ZRX Taking on Pikes Peak
I reckon taking a pretty standard old school style bike and making it into a racer is pretty kewl. My second ZRX may get some track time soon.

Any knob can run up the road on their modded fully sick R1, but if you want your advertisement (let's face it, they're doing this just to get their name out there.......more), then they'll get more attention if the bike they use is something a little outside the norm.
If they chose to do it on a zx10r then maybe it wouldn't require as much customisation, and they wouldn't be able to show off as much.

WOW , sounds like a big buck bike ,saying that it only weighs 390 pounds(don't know how much fuel they hold thow) and 170 hp at the wheel (with a ton of torque)makes for awesome exit speed out of corners and just a top all round bike .This would be a sleeper big time .

Re: ZRX Taking on Pikes Peak
Someone posted the following on ZRXOA:
Due justice for ZRX by SBK?
My long summer ramble.
Owning a ZRX for over 11 years, it was great to see the ZReX being resurrected by an American company (SBK) for the Pikes Peak Race.
No one enters a Race to “Just to have Fun”, a point had to be made! And SBK could have gone with a countless variety of older bikes (Z1000, FZ1, Honda 999, Bandit 1000..etc) but chose the most loyal following, customized, best looking bike of the 21st Century, our ZRX.
A great bike to prove there point I would say. And there point was? To win of course. The meaning of winning in racing is to emphasis your teams mechanical execution , riders abilities and later to sell your services and goods.
I can’t speak for everyone else, but I was concerned that the beloved ZRX would not fair well as a race bike. With today’s technology, the Rex with its Carbs, steel frame, weight, swingarm and over all length would most likely fall well short of a victory.
But wait, as a long time owner I knew with bolt on mods and suspension tuning for the street, my 1200 is a great daily performer and have put many riders to shame.
So SBK, had a great platform to build on. And SBK with its machining and knowledge brought back the ZREX to a 3rd and 6th place victory.
Yes, SBK proved with there History of Racing and technical know how, they can turn an old bike into a winner. And considering ZRX owners have been at it since 1999 here in the States. SBK should be grateful for Kawasaki engineering and the ZRXOA members for there dedication to improving the Rex and sharing that knowledge!
A great victory for SBK and rider (Jake Holden).
SBK, Jake did due justice to our ZRX. Not surprisingly!!
But, who really won was Rex Owners.
Just my take on the ZRX as a Race Bike and SBK. I would like to see a fourth video of the race from both bikes.
Hit the nail on the head, huh!

Kinda my point. But be careful, they're dangerously close to simply saying "we're so talented at building bikes, we took a shit bike and made it awesome".
ZRX owners past and present would totally loose their shit, locusts would plague, rivers would turn from water to blood and fire would rain from the skies.

I can see what you are saying , but it sort of comes across (to me ) that he needed a challenge which he succeeded in getting to love bikes again . I really have to give it to him for such an awesome feet .dutchy wrote:Kinda my point.
