He is no different to any other defence lawyer in that regard - they get paid to do a job. Thats it. Their own beliefs really don't matter - they take up the fight on behalf of their clients no matter who is paying the bill.
But you are right about the prosecution having no appetite for this conviction at all. That - is just a reflection on the poor job done in the first place when the charges were laid.
This one episode won't really make a difference in subsequent cases though - you can bet your balls that the prosecution will have much appetite when the defendant(s) are hard-core bikies and not some young hayseed with an IQ of 45.
