Brake Cleaner. Safe for most paints and rips throught the chain lube. Safe for brake discs, pads, and tyres.

Better yet. Dont use chain lube. I am now passing 10,000km on my current chain with zero lube and has needed zero adjustment. All the naysayers and too brainwashed to give it a try. Chain lube is great until the first patch of crap you ride through, then it turns into grinding paste. Go touch any of the gunk built up on your chain and I guarantee it doesnt feel like lube.

I clean the chain & sprockets every 6 mths or so with WD40 with a tooth brush. I use wax & grease remover for all other serious cleaning. Twist n sqirt Sauce bottle it & cut old bath towels into small squares. Everything i own has polished wheels so it takes a bit of friggen around.
And YES Nanna WILL POLISH !

i used to use varsol in a spray bottle but wasn't sure if it might be too good & getting by or affecting the O-rings

i now use kerosene

i spray the swingarm & wheel then as i'm rotating the wheel spraying all sides of the chain i'm spraying the wheel & swingarm more

by the time i get back to where i started on the chain lots of crud has fallen off & most of the rest has lost its grip

then i power-wash the whole length of the chain & everything else...not too closely & avoiding the bearings

i then spray the swingarm & wheel with a mild degreaser paying extra attention to the brake & tire

lastly i spray the caliper with the best brake dust remover i've found...let it soak in for only a minute then power wash again

any tiny bits of crud that survived can then be safely removed with a little brake & contact cleaner on paper towel without fear of scratching
