Dont kno how true this, but this has come from past and present racers, i only use dunlop slicks, so dont kno about other brands.
Dunlop gp racers will handle a lot more heat cycles, say 5 or so.
dunlop n/tec's only a couple, thats what ive been told, bear in mind that if on the warmers all day, then that is one heat cycle??
But then im only a track day punter, and not pushing the tyre to its limit, so prob not as important??
UP at broady yrs ago watching post classic racing, and saw peter guest washing oil off a tyre in the dunny piss trough, true story!! and it didnt slow him down!!

It all depends on how hot you get the tyre and then you have to put the whole thing in perspective to assess the results of a heat cycle.

If you get any tyre too hot for too long then you will destroy it's performance, doesn't matter what it is. A top level rider can fry a tyre in one heat cycle if the conditions are unfavourable for the tyre and the rider uses the throttle to punish it.

In most situations a brand new 'green' tyre, in any compound, will give it's ultimate possible grip in the first 2 or 3 laps of it's life. After that, the tyre's performance drops away. For a top level rider trying to get pole position in international competition, 100ths and thousandths of a second matter. So he goes out on a green and tries to set a pole time. After those three laps the tyre is no good to him because the grip drops away. So he puts on another green and has another go.

A club racer might already be 7 secs or more away from the ultimate performance that the international rider is able to extract from that same tyre.

So the club racer could do 4 or 5 heat cycles because he's consistently operating on a lower grip level than the international rider and it would take a while before the tyre performance deteriorates enough to affect him enough for him to get rid of it.
