I found with my Subaru, if I run it on 91, I get about 550kms from a tank. On 95, the last tank gave me 670, same route, to and from work.

I'm staying on 95!

Is 95 or 98 ok to use on the older bikes then?

I hate to be pedantic...But Mr Bonester suggests that 7-11 fuel is Shell...
Mate,7-11 fuel is transported by Linfox and supplied by Mobil..
BP is also supplied by Mobil.. and Shell...Sorry..

Im using 98 for my 07 track bike, and my 96 zx7r road bike, how old are u talking about?
if it a leaded engine i would prob go 95 with additives, any engine running reasonable compression will benifit from better fuel, remember we get shit fuel here in oz.

The handbook for the Sprint says 95; but, on 95 she struggles to start. Starts and runs beautifully on 91.

Must vary state to state. Shell truck delivered fuel to 7-11 here today.

For 91 & 95 it's all the same stuff but with different additives. There a only a couple of major refineries in each state, and all fuel companies share the base product. I can't say for all fuel companies, but BP blend their own 98 base product which they used to share only with Mobil (probably exclusive to BP now Mobil don't have servos).

Engines are set up to run on a certain octane, base in fueling, timing and compression. You bike will best on what it set up for. Going to a higher octane does little, going lower causes pre detonation (pinging).

I always get more km per tank running 98, but not always enough to warrant the extra few $ per fill. Do notice a little more on the bum dyne with 98, but that could be just 98 is used on more spirited rides???

in my er6, 91 (non ethanol) does the job; and 98 actually uses more for no benefit
in my zook rf900, it has to be 98 otherwise it is a pig! farts, coughs, pings and wont rev.
my local is a woolies caltex, turns over bulk stock. i reckon thats the secret, fins a servo that doesnt have stale, rusty, waterlogged fuel.
when i had a gpx250, got a sh1tty load of fuel from a servo in botany, what an arse that was!

interestingly, neighbour has a h*nda cb400 twin and i reckon it could use dog piss or kero, it doesnt seem to matter, its still a pig!

95 for the ZRX, both ZX10s and the ZX6.

That would be true only for those that have an exhaust lambda sensors fitted and an ECU that utilises this to auto tune, which to my recollection not many modern bikes have fitted up until recent models.

my 06 and 07 Er6n (aussie model) have 02 sensor. US model doesn't. Work that out! I used to get regular 19km/L out of my 06 and on a trip first tank was same but it self tuned up to 23km/L after that.
