Hey DjDante, you should be able to see what your current globes are just by looking through the front of the headlight assembly, it's usually printed around the base of the globe. From memory they are a 55/60W H4.
As for changing them on the 98 ZX9R it couldn't be easier, I've done it in 5 minutes in a gravel carpark in Bombala on the way back from the GP. You don't even have to undo any screws. Just turn the bars to one side and reach into the back of the headlight assembly, pull out the plug from the back then remove the rubber boot. There's a metal wire clip that holds the globe in place, just push it in and to one side then it will pull back out of the way. Grab the back of the globe by the terminals and pull it out.
Putting the new one in is a reverse of the above, being careful not to touch the glass. Nothing to it!
I've done a VTR in a carpark in Lakes Entrance too and it's just as easy.
