Hey DjDante, you should be able to see what your current globes are just by looking through the front of the headlight assembly, it's usually printed around the base of the globe. From memory they are a 55/60W H4.

As for changing them on the 98 ZX9R it couldn't be easier, I've done it in 5 minutes in a gravel carpark in Bombala on the way back from the GP. You don't even have to undo any screws. Just turn the bars to one side and reach into the back of the headlight assembly, pull out the plug from the back then remove the rubber boot. There's a metal wire clip that holds the globe in place, just push it in and to one side then it will pull back out of the way. Grab the back of the globe by the terminals and pull it out.

Putting the new one in is a reverse of the above, being careful not to touch the glass. Nothing to it!

I've done a VTR in a carpark in Lakes Entrance too and it's just as easy.

Most "Xeon" bulbs you see around (like at AutoBard) are just coated in a luminous film to emit light shifted higher in frequency, so it's "bluer" which reflects better off things which reflect higher frequency light better, such as blue things or white things.
Xeon burning bulbs are the expensive ones, which actually burn xeon which emits a higher frequency light, rather than using a coating to shift the frequency.

Anyhoo, bulbs like the Narva 65+ work a lot better than "Xeon" ones for the $$$.

Has anyone tried or know of anyone who has done a conversion to HID lighting on their bike?

Blue globes have more glare and less light, and down right dangerous in some cases. I find it annoying they are marketing this blue globe junk as an improvement.
What do you think?

What sort of $ do the "real" Xeon bulbs cost ? I know that for options on cars like BMWankers the cost if huge . There must be some real lighting advantage . Anyone fitted the "real" ones ?

About $500 aussie.
There are conversion kits but keep in mind the actual headlight reflective surrounds are not engineered for optimum performance for these bulbs.
