Thursday, September 23, 2010 ยป 06:03am
A Sydney man caught driving more than 220km/h has been remanded in custody.
A Sydney man caught driving more than 220km/h has been remanded in custody days after his licence was reinstated for previous speeding offences.
Officers on patrol clocked a Subaru WRX at 222km/h on the M4 motorway at Eastern Creek, in Sydney's west, about 12.30am (AEST) on Thursday.
The posted speed limit on the stretch of road is 100km/h.
They chased the vehicle and pulled it over a short time later.
The 28-year-old male driver was charged with reckless driving, speeding in a dangerous manner and exceeding the speed limit by more than 45km/h.
Police also suspended his licence.
A search of the man's driving record revealed his licence had only been reinstated 48 hours prior to the alleged offences.
He had been serving a suspension for previous speeding offences.
The man was refused bail and is expected to appear in Blacktown Local Court on Thursday.

This has affected him pretty strongly.
He got stuck in the slammer denied bail the first time, then when he did post bail the tv media found out so they filmed him and his wife and kids and plastered it on the news like he'd killed someone....
Not looking good, off to court for a BIG suspension and BIG fine, possible jail community service etc..... Bloody terrible for a young guy gone back to full time uni with a family , but he's sure learnt his lesson now that's for sure!

Have to say place and time, don't want to get into whether it was dangerous or not but clearly neither the place nor the time. Sure it was 12.30am so no one on the road except the police!
I am confident to say that the media were "informed" for the police media unit own devices.
But what was he thinking, just got it back and goes giddy up and then some.
With regards to the chasing, don't need to chase when there is only one car on the M4 and it is doing 200+, only call a head and give the details. When I lived in Castle Hill, every other week in the local rag there was a write up about some hoon caught on the M2 doing 180 or so at 1 - 2am on a weekday morning, always noted that they were pulled up by Pennant Hills road, but were seen speeding through the tunnel. I figure they factor that enough do it that they can have two cars just waiting for said victim.
Break the rules and get caught ouch!
