I heard the informal votes go to the winnner of the seat and just boost their majority..........

This is not true, Kwakawidow has all her poling booth details (will be running Auburn West as OIC) & there is a envelope with the details for all the formal votes
its called the two candidate system, each area has all the individual party votes directed to only Labor or liberal .... happens at every Federal election. If the vote is informal it will not count.

Goody freaking gumdrops, a shame if you think both options aren't worthy of your vote.
Still it's always interesting to learn more about the way the loony bin works.

The statement that an informal or donkey vote goes to the incumbent is incorrect. What it does do is reduce the total number of votes counted and increases the percentage of primary votes one gets and thus will mean preferences are less required. That is the misconception with the donkey vote, you are helping the candidate which gets the biggest number of primary votes, for if they get more than 50% no need for preferences.
As for voting here is a piece of advice, ever wondered why Labour has been an ineffective government in its first term? Simple answer it doesn't control the upper house (senate) so instead has to negotiate with minority groups who are pushing their own barrow instead of a party line. Problem here is you are giving the power to a few or in some instances one person like Nick Xenophon who you are forced to negotiate with, thus giving the power to one.
Think about it the next time you decide to vote.
Voting liberal, don't like Abbot but believe the Libs can manage the economy far better. The GST which many thought was a bad idea well a few years on it is working well for us.

On another forum poll, Labour are at 21% and Liberal are at 27% of the votes! But, I suppose, with the greens allocating preferences to labour, that will kill any lead they gained!
