yeah man, unless the advice is tailored to your situation its not really going to help.

eg: theft cover...do you ride to work? park the bike within view? lock the bike up tight in the garage at night? etc etc.

Big difference between insuring a zzr250 and a zx6r mate - chalk and cheese comes to mind!

My opinion, take it or leave it - if you can't afford insurance (min 3rd party), you can't afford a road bike.
Same answer for people questioning the cost of protective gear.
It's part of the cost of ownership.

Shop around and be honest.
I think most insurers these days are backed by a small group of companies so I think there's less possibility of getting a shonky insurer (ie one that won't pay out when you need it). So the 'new' comers like insuremyride are worth a look.

yeah i have 2 disc locks on my bike, and one fat arse chain masterlock i think that is linked through a kryptonite lock bolted to the ground + immobiliser and steering lock!!!!

i wont use it for work and only will ride to the girlies really + days out but.
With that sort of protection on my bike at home you think that would deter a smelly little thief?
My bike is behind a roller door under a car port so you cant see it from the street.

mayby i should just pay it so i can sleep at night?
