If they don't apologise and promise to look out more in future or tries to defend his actions or starts to get lippy, then it's ok to smash his mirror off!
I agree with what Nelso said.
Explain the consequences of the cager's actions rationally and if they don't acknowledge their error, it is hello and goodbye.
Hello dent, goodbye mirror.
Haha, love it!

Really the only thing that stopped me smacking him, or his Benz, was me worrying about him getting my plate and calling the fuzz on me.
Almost agree with what nelso said..... until the mirror off ;) as although it would provide a momentary feeling of satisfaction through exacting some revenge..... It is not really worth risking a potential malicious damage charge......

Hmmm I thought it was just me who had 'disagrements' with those overpriced horsefloat tractors (Mercedes softroader)

Well done Mark, on many accounts, for preparing to avoid a crash as well as pulling him up for it, for sharing it here .

I feel, being critical or out-spoken in life might not be the right thing, but sure as hell far more effective and progressive, that just shrugging the shoulder and pretending nothing happened.

The next rider hopefully will reap the benefit . :kuda:

Interesting timing on this thread. I haven't had an incident with a cage in a long while, but today was my day :(

Riding beside a bus on my left in moderately heavy traffic, I'd kept to the right of my lane (centre lane) and behind the car on the right, so was in a relatively safe position for some time. As the car in front of me got further enough ahead, I increased speed to move up beside the car's window (trying to keep the time I'm transitioning between being behind and clear and right beside the passenger window and clearly visible to a minimum). The car driver swerved into my lane right at that moment. No indicator, no mirror check, no head check. Just a swerve into the lane I was in.
I jumped on the anchors and moved as far left as I dared (the bus looking bigger and bigger all the time). I remember bracing my elbow and knee out on the right (like I'm going to hold a car off my bike with a knee  ) and part of my brain measured the distance and "I could kick his car" flitted through the part of my head that wasn't concentrating on avoiding and stopping :D I didn't kick - didn't want to unsteady myself or distract myself from getting out of the way.

From behind him, there was some horn action (I need air horns installed) and a few vigourous arm and hand gestures. I got a similar gesture in return. Pulled up beside him at the lights and had a little chat with the bloke. I told him he nearly killed me and he should look before he changes lanes. He yelled back that he didn't see me. I told him I knew he didn't see me, but that if he had actually fucking looked, he would've. He then said that he only saw me behind him and asked what my problem was. I told him that I was beside him when he moved across lanes, and only just managed to stop in time to end up behind him and not under his car. He told me he didn't see me and to fuck off.

I felt the adrenalin pump through my arms. I very much wanted to reach through the car window and slam his head into his arsehole the long way round. I took a breath and realised I had many options to choose from, and that escalating is never the smart option. So I said to him a little sadly "Is that how it is? You nearly kill me, and instead of a 'sorry mate', or a 'shit, I didn't look', I get a 'fuck off'. You scared the crap out of me and all I did was tell you about it" then I just looked at him. He looked down and then said "I'm sorry". I said "No worries. Ya reckon you could use your mirrors or turn your head next time? That would be good thanks mate".

I let him keep his mirror :) And I filtered to the front and went on with my day 8)

Exactly what i do Cath, for me kicking cars and ripping off mirrors is no way to act in a situation like that, but the thought definately is there, my standard reaction is to ask how they'd feel leaving a 2 year old and a 1 month old kid fatherless, usually works, and the assholes that still say fuck off, i know i'm better than them, i pity their life, split lanes to get in front of them and never think of them again.....

Fcuk, Cath! That sounds like a close call I never want to encounter. If you weren't on your game you would've either been under his car or squashed somewhere between his car and the bus, or under the bus.

And his response is fcuken pathetic, I can't believe how these wankers react when they're confronted with something they've done wrong that could've potentially killed someone. Instead of a simple, "shit, I'm sorry, I completely fcuked up!" You get told to "Fcuk off!" You're a better person than me, if that toss yesterday told me to get fcuked it would've been the final straw, I would've buried the prick.

Thank God you corrected his error and you're still alive.

I never quite realised how shit most drivers are till I started riding a bike.

pretty emotional responses there heh heh. Clay remember you're on your L's and thats worse than just being on a bike, its like have a massive bulls eye on your head saying sodomize me in the harshest way possible. I live north, went out for a 4 hour ride through north sydney and through the city just because i love pain. Had about 5 guys try to merge me INTO parked cars. I think people just dont see you, no one in a car head checks. I just try to keep buffering where i can but f*ck that in the, city ride in the centre lane.

I'm on my L's too man, so far i've had them 2 weeks and i've been rear ended, merged in to about 10 times and had some cocksmoker over take me in a right hand turning lane when i was turning right(c***) but thats not gonna discourage me.

also remember these guys kicking mirrors have 600+ cc which means 100km/h in 2 gear in 2 seconds. ninja 250 =170 kilos, 4wd = 2 tonnes = mush.

You wanna pull over and wait till i get off the bike, that's a different story all together.

my 2 cents
