for the money if you couldnt go for a new 250r i would suggest a gpx250/zzr250. both gorgoeus bikes, easy to learn and flick around traffic. that sort of money most wont be dropped, but make sure you check. for that money you could easily get a 06-07 model.

dude if you blow up a ninja 250, you are very hard on equipment...
its essentially the same engine as GPX250 and ZZR250, those things are unkillable!!!

Mate if you have $5,000 to spend on a 250..........
I wouldn't buy anything older than 2000 or with more than 20,000 klm on it.......... Remember you are going to sell it one day..........

dude if thats the case i wouldnt go near it. if it doesnt run for you the first time, and has 50grand on it. will be a big problem.
If it was the battery you could still use jumper leads to atleast start the thing.

Just want to clarify a couple of things.
1. A ninja 250, is a 2008 onwards 250cc twin cylinder four stroke! The 1989 model you looked at is actually a ZXR250. It has been rebranded here in Oz to mirror the model designation of the larger Kawasaki sports bikes, such as ZX6R, ZX7R etc.,
2. Regardless of when the bike was Australian complied, it is still a 1989 model.
3. A rebuild on a 4 Cylinder 250 ZXR is worth more than the bike is!!!!
4. A CBR 250 is going to be just as likely to need work as a ZXR250 would.
For the money you are talking, I bet you could find a seller of a current Ninja 250R, keen enough to accept an offer close to that!!!
good luck with whatever you buy.

Then keep looking untill you find one..... they are out there........ Check ebay, bikesales.com, Trading Post, local bike dealers and bike dealers websites, 250's are the most popular bikes available. It will happen. I'll start your next thread "Intoducing my new beast". 2005 model only 18,000k bla bla bla.......
