yeah tried clutch starting, nothing!!!! will try it again tomorrow, since i have tomorrow off. but apart from that i might have to take it down to a mechanic, to see wtf is going on, or if Joe could see since he knows everything about a 7!!!!! Hey greenblood got a minute hahaha.

have you got multimeters? a few checks with them will point you in a closer direction

no that is the one thing i dont have.

ok so ripped the carbies off, took the rocker cover off. thought maybe the cam chain was stuffed, but nice and tight. smelt of burnt oil as i havent had a chance to do an oil change. spark plugs need replacing, but none of them have spark going to them????? worked out the spinning noise after i release the start button is infact the started motor or something near it. battery is flat now.
Cleaned the side stand switch completely and also bypassed it and still no.

y did you take the carbs off if you dont have spark!!!
get an elec diagram and follow to the coils, buy a set a multimeters and start testing power

As said already, Startor sprag sounds cactus,whan stuffed it can sometimes grab slightly then let go, when it lets go the starter motor spins up, probably the spinning sound you can hear

had to take the carbs off to get to the idle control wire since i unscrewed it all the way off lol. plus wanted to check under the rocker cover and could not remove the cover with out take the carbs off, bit tight these 7's.

thanks Rob i will be checking the starter motor soon. Will be removing it this weekend. and seeing wtf is going on.


On a quick note. When you take the spark plugs out, that should make the engine have no compression??? if so, if you place it in gear shouldnt you be able to push the bike without the clutch in or wothout or both? {just following all avenues}

Also while i have been pulling apart Gen, i have come to relise this beautiful girl has been very mistreated!!!! but i still have abit under 4months to get her ready.

You wont see much but at least you can check the starter. as for the starter clutch you would have to dig deeper

whay should i be checking then??? on the starter that is.

once you have the started off run wires to it, positive to the tang and negative to the body and see how she spins up. MAKE SHORE YOU PLACE YOUR FOOT/ PUT IT IN A VICE so it doesnt run away

you will still have some resistance form the engine as your trying to squeeze air in the cylinder out a spark plug hole you most prob will have to sit on the seat if the rear wheel just stays locked hehe.

have you charged the battery and given it another go? and have you located the starter solenoid?

yeah changed the battery, and the starter solenoid should be the one near the fuse box under the seat isn't it.

And thanks for that as i said above ill rip the starter off this weekend and see if it is stuffed or not.

follow your positive lead from the battery, it will go striaght to the starter solenoid. this has a fuse in it, it will have the wire coming from the battery, then into the body then to the starter,,,, try bridging this with a screwdriver

so you mean bridging the 2 wires that are going into the it, instead of allowing it to pass through it.

yer pop the caps off the solenoid and get a screw drive and touch both of them, dont be afraid of the sparks . do this before you take to starter off. this will totally bypass all the safety switches and ignition

cool ill try it tomorrow and see what happens, the bike is in pieces at the moment.
