I used to go to the old road warriors periodically and haven't really gone there for the last couple of years (before they closed). Personally i am happy to just go to the pie and never give the new cafe owner any patronage (aside from maybe stopping to leave a surprise in their loo if i get caught out). I think its fair enough to have a crack at opening a buisness for yourself, but not at the expense of absolutely fucking someone else over in the agressive manner used in this instance.

I hope they go bankrupt within 6 months.
Why? They are the OWNER and want a return on their investment so that makes them a bad person?

Facts - Max was a top bloke, there was an inner group who were not as accepting, not good for encouraging business. Over the last 10 years for various reasons the numbers had dropped off. Perhaps if all those who showed up on the last day had shown up on the occassional weekend perhaps it would be still be going.

Don't blame the new owners at least they have provided a toilet. I don't know nor have I been up there in over 2 years so can not and will not judge them until I do.

I heard the new cafe owner is also the landloard......... The previous owner wanted to renew their lease but the landloard upt the rent to force them out....

The landlorad is apparently an arab and was wanting to open a Kebab shop, because the previous tenant was going so well...........

Do'nt know this first hand but told is reliable second hand info............. 8)

I've heard a whole swathe of rumors about why Max was forced out, and as far as i can tell there are two base reasons it could be related to.

1) Current owner sick of some of the knobs who were using it as their own stunt arena/racetrack and figured if he got rid of a primary reason they hung around there (a cafe that they frequented) then maybe they would bugger off elsewhere. Sure it affects some good people who weren't dickheads, but that is the price to pay for getting rid of the idiots.

2) current owner saw an opportunity (either he saw things were going alright or he saw "how they weren't" and figured he could do a better job of it) and took it.

As much as i dislike it all, i can see reason behind option #1, however if it was related in any way to option #2 then fark them very much.

I hadn't been up that way in ages and riding up there last Sunday was the first time i had been there since the closure of roadwarriors. Frankly it was a hell of a long way to go just for a coffee & i never was a frequent frequenter.

Max put in 'proper' loos about a year before closing too. They were quite creative too......fashioned out of an old container thinggy.

Wonder if the local cunstabulory will be getting their coffee from the new place. They used to spend their weekdays in RW sipping lattes and their weekends nabbing the rest of us  bastages.

Just business. When you rent the premise you are using as a business then your business is only as viable as your lease. This is no different whether it be commercial properties in an industrial area or a shop in Westfields. Your landlord makes the decision on lease renewal and that decides whether you have a business or not. When you invest ina business you invest for an return outcome within your lease period, then if the lease is renewed it's all a bonus.

so here is another story which is allot closer to the truth.

a couple of years ago the place went up for sale (land and buildings) as the current landowner wanted to sell up due to financial / personal reasons. Along came a buyer (as he saw potential in the location) who bought the place up. It received a relatively small rental return (from RW cafe). the building RW cafe sat in obviously needed renovations, it was falling to pieces, full of termites etc so the landlord decided to rebuild. landlord did not renew MAX's lease which put an end to his business (for the period of the rebuilding).

The building has now been rebuilt with fresh facilities and has been leased out to someone who wanted to run the cafe. I believe the persons running the cafe are NOT the landlord who owns the property and simply someone who has rented the premises to run a small business. Please keep this in mind when basing your decisions on the place, yes it was a bit harsh to force Max out like that but the place needed serious renovations to be legally acceptable. Max would have had the ability to re-lease the premises if he wanted but I guess he chose not to (for whatever reason).

It certainly will not be the Road Warriors it once was but before jumping to conclusions I would suggest you put yourself in the business owner & the landlords shoes. You should not vilify these people at first glance.

as for the "Arab wanting to open a kebab shop" rumor, well you seriously have to have a think about that comment before taking it seriously.

I am not advocating anything here I am just encouraging everyone to take a step back and look at some facts before vilifying people who are trying to make an honest living.

I know nothing of the place or any owners so I have no agenda but my thoughts are: a potential business owner looking to lease a property should be smart enough to look into the place in question's history and take all that into account before undertaking such a venture. If they were naive enough to start a business that relied on a certain clientele and there is the potential for that clientele to feel resentful for whatever reason then I'm not surprised so many new businesses fail. If what Scooby is saying is true the new owners really need to do some PR work to put all the ill feelings many people are expressing to rest. Personally I don't care 'cause you bastards up north have two places to choose from and the Nasho crew just have a dodgy caravan with shit coffee.

Yeah tell me about it, surely a coffeeshop / cafe at the lookout would draw a huge crowd.

I actually spoke directly with Max the Wednesday after the "Last Ride" ..

Max leased the property for a long while. It was recently purchased by the owner of the many acres that back the 700 odd square metres that is has become known as the Road Warriors Cafe (the driveway out front is actually RTA) ...

The "New" owner approached Max with a rental increase that more than doubled his current rent ($2000/month to $5000/month) ...

Also ... as the new owner was also the owner of the land to the rear, had access to all amenaties, easements etc and was giving Max a hard time with repairs, water useage, sewerage etc ... ...

Anyways ... Max was .. forced? .... to go ... and well, we know what is there now .......

With the crowds come the cops.....Don't get me wrong they do a great job sleepy2.gif

That small van can stay there for all I care....

The idea of the Nasho being mostly resurfaced will draw crowds already.... Keep the cafe's up north....

A coffee shop/restaurant would ruin the place. Where would everyone park
