It may yet get worse!
When my mate lost his wallet we went in to see about a replacement Lisence.
The Girl behind the counter required ID 8)
When asked what he could use,
She replied "A Drivers Lisense" :?
Not a plate but maybe you'll encounter the mentality :kuda:

Hope this isnt too late and its worth trying before riding anywhere. Call the police assistance line... Not sure what the number is in QLD but you may be able to do a statement over the phone, get the report number and not even have to attend a cop shop???

As long as it's the right number, your numberplate light is working and you're on the way there, wtf can they say?

Big font though, with no serifs. Try and get the thing at least looking like it's semi-respectable.

Mick

Thats the go - its worked for me once a few years ago. As long as the rego is current, and the *plate* is readable, then you will be fine.

The important thing is the actual rego number - not what its printed on.

on this topic, wtf is that TRAFFIC numberplate i see people making and putting on their car!?!?!?!?
must be a southern thing. i've never seen it in queensland, not on the south east and sunny coast anyway. queensland smurfs dont have much of a sense of humor either when it comes to strange things on vehicles. :(
Naw its a NSW thing
years ago when Moses played left back for the Israelite's and paper licenses were the norm a traffic plate was affixed to a vehicle to transport to the nearest vehicle inspection station often called the "pits " ( as there was a big pit the inspectors went into to look at the bottom of a car) this practice was used before the introduction of trade plates and was free
The guvmint realised the error of their ways and soon imposed a charge, now a day registration can be applied for at Qld transport. Not sure what happens in NSW nemore

thanks for all of the advice, it turns out I needn't have worried too much anyway. I stopped in at the blue light disco on the way home (quite convenient as I have to ride straight past it normally  ) and the Senior Constable I spoke to was quite helpful. He took some details and wrote it all down and told me that if I needed a reference number that I could call back tomorrow and it would be in the system. He also gave me HIS details and police number in case I got pulled over. All in all, I must say thankyou to the Queensland Police Department, they could have been arseholes about it and gotten into me about riding with no plate. In all honesty though, I wasn't expecting anything else. In all of my years of being on the road, I have never had a prob with the police, mainly coz I don't gob off and accept responsibility when I know I've been nicked (137 in a 100 zone   he was a VERY nice NSW policyman lucky me). So there you go, it pays to be nice to Mr Plod, lest he bite you on the arse when you least expect it. :kuda:

So techinical, but you ain't realy got a choice, otherwise go via taxi. Plus the vehicle isn't UNROADWORTHY, it just doesn't have a plate. The cop could still find out form the VIN!

I am sure if you just go slow and not do a Ghost Rider and head in the "general direction" of Q-Trans and get pulled over just explain to him you rang station X at Time Y they said goto ASAP and im sure the cop will be reasonable enough to let you off.
Unless he is just a fucking twat and wants to be an arsehole!

I remember when i was putting my personalised plates on, i was at the transport dept, and the holes ont he plate wouldnt line up with the fender elim, so i jsut rode straight home, worked the hoels with a drill and all good, pretty sure if you take it easy and tell them the story, then continue on to the cop shop youll be fine, its what id do.
