so the knocking isnt a problem ? damn i went for a test ride today and that sound really freaked me out . i thought the front end is gonna break while riding it . it was a 98 model with 51000km's on it . the guy seems to be nice and i can probably get it for around $2000 . the cosmetics are pretty messed up but i dun really mind . but i was worried about the knocking sound and also the suspension is softer then the other ones i've riden . what does that mean ? is that a big issue ? im think of getting a inspection done by a mech . does anyone know if brighton kawasaki do them ? and are the people there nice to noobies ?

Welcome dude, youll have fun with a zzr, i have a gpz250 which is almost the same , but mines an 87 with 51000ks on it and yeha same engine they like to to knock abit when cold, but man when its warm haha they hammer. have fun riding and stay safe dude.

Welcome to the Site champ, you realize you HAVE to buy a Kwaka now dont you ?.
The Gpx is a better bike imho, Same donk less weight & much less fragile bodywork. IT Will fall over dont stress it.
These things have been made to rev & the clutch basket rattle usually decreases as they get warm.
Having said that the ZZR does have a better range of tyres with the 17 inch rims.
BTW don't rule out the GPZ250R more power & even less wt. But getting a bit old in the tooth now being 85=86 models, still at under 2k rego'd you'll have coin to do 'er up.

As long as the motor is fine on the $2k model, perhaps go for that one! Its just a cheap form of insurance, cause if you drop it, your heart will break! Just makes it a bit easy to cope with if the dings are already there!
Only up side to getting the low km for $4k is you will most likely get all that money back when u sell it, its just a bit risky incase you do drop it!
Bur $2000 is nothing anyway should last you the few months you have it, then you can start to climb the ladder of bikes!

True thats why i bought the GPX250, it was $2000 grand 45ks on the clock, but a solid engine, clutch was abit hoe you going but have since replaced that. All i could say is make sure it has a good set of rubber and it doesnt, dont waste your time and go get some good grip, save you alot of trouble.

How long do u intend on keeping the 2fid ? Not long i bet, i know learners always say OH I GOTTA BUY A BRAND NEW HYO or NINJA 250R CAUSE I WILL NEVER MOVE UP FOR YEARS CAUSE ITS SO POWERFUL. yet give it a few months and you will be bored with the power and want something with a sharper look!
So just spend as little as possible on yer 250, but buy some really decent gear. I have had my same Shoei XR1000 for over 3 years now. Due for a new one soon, but spend up on yer gear and it iwll pay for itself overtime! The $300 you keep forking out for a cheaper helmet will soon to add up when u replace it more often!

LOL, dont care about the weight, mate had my 2fiddy for 5 months now and already lookign to up grade, im trying to hold out but the dark side is dragging me towards the zx6r, mmmm i want it bad. asoon as im off my p's im off the 250. I rode my brother 750 and fell in love, but thats a yammy so not good enough. kwaka all the way

ah hold out on it mate! There is no rush anyway! Enjoy the cheapness of the 250 for now, plus save yer pennies and find a sweet 6, maybe go a 9 even, just as enjoyable as the 6 in comfort but shitloads more grunt!

Yeah i have been watching a nice 9, and its 6grand, nice and neat, cant remember what year model but very yummy

wow . thanks for all the reply guys . sorry havent had the chance to cheak up on this for ages . had to take a break for uni and stopped looking at bike due to money issues . however i'd like to tell you guys that i got a bike now . just brought it today . its seems like it's flying when im on it . now i know what they mean by 'hold on the your dear life' . but then again . im still a noob which would think a cbr125 is flying . i got a 93 zxr250 for 1850 . had a test ride and it seem the mech is fine just cosmatic dmg . couldnt find anything cheaper then that . i know the zzr would be more reliable but i couldnt pass on this deal . it was just too cheap . once again . thanks for all the input . i'll be taking my baby out tonight . let you know how that goes

zx2r ay there a bit more powerful hehe, rev it all the way to red line, they love it
any probs with it let us know.
the zx2rs are pretty reliable, just keep a good battery in it and good fuel, the carbys dont like oldish fuel.
and do oil changes regualry, how many klms has it got?

good stuff mate, you wont regret getting the zxr over the zzr. awesome little bike that loves the high revs. i have only ever had 2 probs with mine. one was a rusty fuel tank which pissed me off for a while, the other was the regulator under the tank kept burning out a wire (still don't know why its doing that). If you need parts for the engine, don't let anyone tell you they are expensive or unobtainable. the zr250 balius was sold in australia and it has the same engine as the zxr250, so parts are readily available. have fun on it and don't be afraid to give it heaps
