JB Weld works too (steel reinforced epoxy). I've used it on my TZR's tank when it developed a pin hole leak from rust.

I finally got a chance to take some pics this arvo and load some of them up, so here they are!!






















I got some JB Weld this arvo as I am finding it hard to find the Devcon stuff here in Brissie. I'm going to drain the tank tomorrow or Saturday and let it dry out for a day or so then give it a shot. My first worry is to actually get the hole plugged then worry about the looks - at least the bike will be on the road!

Wow, im surprised that that managed to wear a hole. Then again, vibration & time it could possibly wear away.

It seems that the foam where the tank bag is joined in that position was never glued down properly and the tank has been rubbing against the plastic bit under the foam, not the protective covering. Seeing I use the tank bag 99% of the time I use the bike then it's seen a fair bit of use, but this should not happen. I'll see what happens but I don;t expect anything from the bag guys at all......

G'day mate, hope you enjoy that weather up there.......and Devcon can be a bit hard to track down - you need to find old-school engineering shops, places that have been around for decades and are really small and dusty..... (no shit, years ago when I needed this stuff while living in Newcastle, the only place that sold it matched the description perfectly....)

I think you must have also gotten a pebble or something else under the tank-bag at some stage ? That would wear a hole if it was under a pressure-point of some sort ?

Knowing how well-presented your bike is, I bet you spewed blood when you found that hole !!!

You picked it Gos - you should have heard the language that came out of my mouth!!! Ha, even my kids looked worried..... maybe I used a few words that they hadn't heard before!!!

Anyway, I tried the JB Weld and all went well for two days, then the leak appeared again - the fuel must have ate straight through the JB!

A pity as it was all looking good there!

Anyway, I'm going to drain the tank again and send it down to my cousin in the ACT who will get it fixed for me really cheap by his panel shop where he works. It's a chance to get it all re painted and remove the kwaka badges on the tank, something I've wanted to do for a while now!

The downside is that the bike will be off the road for about 6-8 weeks or so as it will be done in spare time, but the upside is that I am able to buy another bike in the meantime which means no riding downtime!

My JB weld repair has lasted something like 9 months now. It's probably not the most reliable of methods, but it's not doomed to failure.
