Look at the protection in the boot. Pretty easy to spot quality over cheap and nasty.

A very good statement and the dilemma I am facing.

Yes, its best to buy the best you can afford.
I belive that the bigger and usually more expensive companies have a better R&D department. ( Sidi, Alpine )
But
Remember, no matter what boots you wear, sometimes its the way that you land that will cause the damage and no boot can save you form a bad fall.
I speak from experience

Tried on a set of RJays touring boots $199 today, felt comfy but they were only touring boots, they didnt have a big range and I didnt have enough time to go to any other bike shops, the Boots you mentioned above seem ok, and the right price.
might get time to check out another shop tomorrow. Thanks for everyones suggestions

Hi All
Just an update on this thread, I have bought a pair of Dri rider Nordic boots of ebay for $120, after checking out a few boots at bike shops around town I had to go with what I could afford and what appeared to be a reasonable quality boot, in other words "Best Value for Money"
Thanks to all who contributed, much appreciated, very helpful, and one day I will own a pair of A* as I reckon they are the boot to have
