Is this why they are putting up more of those wire rope barriers to cut the motorcyclist road toll? :x .But it does stop hoons crashing onto railway tracks. :?

I'm confused.

Well, I'm really quite shocked!

No-one ever warned me this was a dangerous hobby when I took it up! (Especially not my mum! :P )

I think I will have to reassess......

Pfft!

Where's the part about motorcyclists having 500 times the enjoyment out of life? Where's the part about most motorcyclists having 50 times better road skills than most car drivers. Scare mongering again. I'm tired of this crap!

Obviously the SMH had a bit of a dry news day. We need some more P platers to do some street racing to take the heat off.

Given Watties experience on the weekend I wonder what the correlation is between number plate angle, distance betwen blinkers and motorcycle accidents. Perhaps they could investigate that....

it seems that if youre not a car driver between the ages of 25 and 50 you mustnt pay your tax, you shouldnt be allowed on the road and your a danger to others. furthermore the government will come up with initiatives to make you pay more fees for safety.
i ride 300kms a week on my pushbike and ive been told countless times im dangerous and i shouldnt be on the road.
dangerous to who?

I think we can expect a new raft of laws to protect us from ourselves again...

So the safest way to travel would have to be by prime mover. At the current cost of diesel, it should only cost my whole pay packet to commute too work in a truck.

No everyone should be encouraged to ride a bike!

What a lot of rot! I cover ten times as many k's on the bike as my caged friends do in a week... on far more technical roads... in a far more enthusiastic manner... and with far more performance on tap. All those things combined probably means I am exposed to 1,000 times the danger of car drivers... put that factor into the statistics and then see who is dangerous and who isn't.

I dont think it's as much of an issue of kms people do on the road, but more of complacency, distractions, lack of maitenance of vehicles and respect for other road users...

I found it interesting while in Thialand that with the amount of people on the road, utes, cars and scooters, lack of protective gear, over crowding and ALL travelling at extemely high speed, they ALL concentrated on driving...
They could not afford no to be distracted because they are aware that an accident over there is probably fatal.

As in previous posts, the cager is not a place to feed, answer the phone, do your make up..etc .. but until something happens to an induvidual or someone they know.. they just arent going to get it... but this will probably be at the unfortunate cost of one of us... There is also the Fuk Wit factor to consider... but thats for another post.

To be frank... as graphic as tv adds are and stuff you can find on the net - the shock factor isnt there any more.
The laws and pentalties for culpable driving offences are no deterant and the penalties for reoffenders are a joke.
Cheese graters might save cagers, but are just another hazzard for us.
Hoons and hoon laws try and deal with the Fuk Wit factor, but not complacent commuters.

Its easy to point out all the problems.. road rage for example.... i havent even scratched the surface
So whats the solution?.....

All of my crashes have been at under 70kph. Km wise, I have ridden over 75,000 in the last 4 years and probably the same again in the 4 years previous to that - was commuting 800km a week and traversing London daily.

two written off bikes due to people exiting side roads
1 set of scratches for deciding I wasn't going to make a corner (very minor & in hind sight I would have made the corner)
1 Major rebuild due to diesel soaked corner.

I have sustained far worse injuries through BMX racing - or more accurately, through training to race BMX! Latest example of this was last night  Just off to the radiology dept now for X-rays and a CT scan

when i was little kid, my doctor told my brother and i, if we crashed on those dangerous motobikes not to come t him.

i broke my arm playing soccer, my brother tore half his finger off playing basketball, and got 8 stiches in his arm from crashing his pushy into an o'brien glass truck.

worst we got from bikes was bruises and got winded a few times. alway had our gear on.

My old man always told me, you learn more in one day one a bike than you do in a year in a car.

i think everyone should have to hold a bike licence for a year b4 they can drive a car.

you are a better driver after riding a bike. ;)

+10 im with what you said. I think everyone who holds a drivers licence should also be made to hop onto a bike at the very least as a pillion. This would definately make em better drivers or at the very least more aware drivers
