I always wanted to be a fighter pilot. I had enough model planes strung from the ceiling of my bedroom to give even the most experienced air traffic controller a headache. I was a sergeant in the Air Training Corps. I'd been to the Tindall airforce base for work experience and had applied for a scholarship to the defence force academy.

Then my hormones kicked in and skipping school and having sex was suddenly the most important thing in the world. Went from being a straight A student to failing my final year of school. Couldn't be stuffed going back to finish it.

My second option was to join the Police. Took me 10 years as a networking consultant to do something I actually wanted to do.

What kind of crime appeals to you the most? Not counting of course the numerous, that you commit every day on two wheels...

Always wanted to be a fighter pilot. Still do when I think about it. Mental arithmetic isn't my strongest point though so that put paid to that!
I was going to be a fighter pilot. I was in the cadets, had formal combat aviation training and everything. spent 2 years of my life with the air force as a young cadet.

Then for some unknown reason i was in a routine simulation and i failed to see the colour of a particular light (green). The instructor picked this up, they gave me a colour blind test and i failed.
They took my wings away and told me i could remain in the air force but i could never fly.
I told them where to stick it and left.

But to answer the OP's question, no my parents never asked me

Well, being a good Catholic primary school girl and being taught by Irish nuns, of course I wanted to be a nun when I grew up! This lasted until I was about 10 and was taught by Sr. Theresa, a nun so nasty that not even the parents particularly liked her...especially after she broke three fingers of one of my classmates with the meter long ruler. Then, from when I was 11, a couple of friends and myself were practicing kissing the boys at the cricket nets, so the whole nun thing was certainly out the window by then!

Two of my nephews are at the wise old age of 5 and 4. The 5 year old wants to be an "eye doctor" (optometrist) like his mum, and the dinosaur-mad 4 year old wants to be a palaentologist who will discover a new breed of dinosaur (word for word). I didn't even know the word palaentologist existed until I was at least 10!

(and aren't the parents mightily impressed about that!)

Dad was in the QLD police force for 36 years and thinks it's just dandy (NOT), Mum just cries and pretends it isn't happening!

Of course she does. We all do. Your Mum obviously knows that you'd be a lot better off on a Kwakka!

Yes I didn't tell her about the Gixxer for quite a while- figured that being a black bike they wouldn't really tell the difference. When Dad did finally notice that it wasn't the same bike I just fessed up-
"Yes it is a new bike, but the other one was a 650, this one is only a 600!"

(Now that HAS to be safer.......

doesn't it?? )
