Agreed Strika - But this is NOT about cameras; its about an unjustified lowering of existing speed zones with NO accident data to support it.

there'd be an accident on that road at least once a week.

but not always because of speed.

alot has to do with snow and ice. if thats the case, why lower the speed all year? make it variable limit. lower when its raining or snow.

It's a good highish speed sweeper kind of road, that you can do quite briskly with a hell of a lot of safety and it beats the shit out of the Great Western. The point is that 100 is slow for it in most parts let alone 80 or 70

Do you have reading comprehension skills or something?????????? :? It's been mentioned numerous times!! :?

"Maybe its time for a spot of "civil disobedience" - and I'll leave that to your imagination.
I'm imagining a conga line of bikes riding at 5km BELOW the speed limit at distances between them that extend the line for several kilometres - who's up for it?
P.S. Xmas hols are coming up! "

"Yep and you know what the next major expenditure to stop all the carnage on this road will be don't you..

A speed camera....."

"If a speed camera goes out there i'd be tempted to "borrow" a few baldies from tempe tyres and go see about a closer inspection of them. Not that i woudl do it, but i'd be fugging tempted."

"Although a new speed camera will add nicely to increasing revenue."

"the speed camera on kurrajong hts was installed to help with the "black spot" that is bells line of road.

funny how they put it where the only accidents are trucks losing their brakes at 5km/hr "

"I was up there years ago, there was a kitchen tidy bag over it and a guy doing laps just to see the bag light up at night"

Getting back to the topic .....
Speed limits along Bells Line of Road have been reduced by the Roads and Traffic Authority to make the route safer and more consistent for drivers. In some places the speed limit has been slashed by as much as 20km/h. The changes were announced yesterday by the RTA, and will consolidate 22 speed zones along the Bells Line of Road to 18. As a result, signage will be upgraded and increased along the road from today.
The Bells Line of Road, which encompasses a 72 kilometre stretch of bitumen, has been the scene of 706 accidents in the past five years resulting in seven fatalities and 354 injuries. The major areas where the speed limit has been changed include:
• The 90km/h speed limit at Kurrajong from west of Old Bells Line of Road to west of Springrove Land will be reduced to 80km/h,
• The 100km/h speed limit at Kurrajong Heights from west of Van Wheelers Drive to east of Pittmans Road will be reduced to 80km/h,
• The 90km/h speed limit at Kurrajong Heights from east of Pittmans to east of Bilpin Fruit Bowl will be reduced to 80km/h,
• The 70km/h speed limit at Bilpin from east of Bilpin Fruit Bowl to east of Johnsons Road will be reduced to 60km/h,
• The 100km/h speed limit from east of Johnsons Road to east of Mountain Lagoon Road will be reduced to 80km/h,
• The 70km/h speed limit east of Mountain Lagoon Road to west of Bilpin Springs Road will be reduced to 60km/h,
• The 100km/h speed limit west of Burrakay Road to east of Beramb-ing Crescent will be cut to 80km/h,
• The 100km/h speed limit from east of Mt Banks Road to west of Mt Wilson Road will be cut to 80km/h,
• The 100km/h speed limit on Chifley Road, between Bell and Sydney Region Boundary, has been cut to 80km/h.
