I don't know if anyone else has different results, but I've noticed that no matter how fast I or the group I ride with go when we are on the road, it always seems to round out to an average of about 80km/h for the whole trip including breaks.
1300km in 16 hours is pretty much 80km/h. When we went to HG it was 800 odd kays in around 10 hours...or pretty much 80km/h. I've noticed the same on other trips too, which is probably why you keep passing that same freakin car/truck/bus/4WD that keeps getting in the way

Mick I think most would get the same result.
I had a 98k avg Bris>Freo last January and just did a 119k avg Darwin to Port Augusta 30th April. The more you do it the better avg. I used to be happy with 91-92avg now 96-98 is norm.
Depends on where you are driving/riding also re speed limits, it is 130 in NT so sitting on 130-135 is easy.

to me a quick squirt is about 200km or about 3hrs worth (lap of canungra)where as a long ride would be anything that gets me home after lunch time or where u need to stop for lunch

Have to be at least 400km to be a long ride, can't be back before lunch and say you've been on a long ride..

yea i reckon it comes down to wot Gos said, BUT..it does depend on the intensity-
a 20min session on the track in heat CAN be a bloody long ride...
a 400km scratch from bowral to wollongong, down to bega for lunch and back with ya mrs on the back, is a long ride...
a 800km freeway trip from adelaide to melb is a long ride...
my longest "day trip lap" was 800km, left at 6am, home at 10pm... out and about all over nsw...
my longest "nighter/weekender" was when we did adelaide to PI via the GOR...approx 3800km in 3 days of riding (3 days drinking in between)

Start riding when the sun comes up, stop when it gets dark - riding in mid summer makes for the longest ride.

Nice photo.......
Some details of the longer rides done in the past include...
Brisbane (Woodcliffe) -Canb in 1 day (on the Black Pearl), left Qld at 0600hrs, lost 1 hour at the border, hit the pub here just after 10pm....
Great ride this one, did it with 2 mates, we had a real "Max" moment on the freeway just after Mooni Mooni bridge.....
Canb - Mildura in 1 day, on the way to Silverton for a Z Owners rally. All old bikes, did the Hay Plain sitting on the ton......
Next morning, got up and did the run from Mildura to Broken Hill and hit the Silverton pub at lunchtime...it seemed like a ride up to the shops after the previous day. Spent 1 and a half days on the road, for 1 and a half days at the Rally, then 2 day ride home. This is a long ride.....
Have done Canb - Island in 1 day there / back heaps of time on the Pearl, sometimes via the coast, sometimes on the Hume. My arse tells me this is also a long ride.....
Mick - that lap out around the *front yard* is a great lap. Its a good ride, and almost qualifies as a 'long' ride......almost.....
