Jewjew - I agree, BUT, all that will do is speed up the instant dismissal for speeding... which I'm sure is inevitable. The less road laws they make the better, even if they're good ones, because they just encourage themselves to make more and more.

When I first moved to QLD a mate got done for 270km/h (yes) and it was only a $600 fine and 6 points.... now 40km/h over is 6 months instant loss of license plus 8 points and any applicable loss of license if you lose your license on points too. Only 8 years ago my mate was 160km/h over and drove away... progressing too fast for my liking.

This is the way it's progressing, let's not hurry it up eh?

I disagree. I use mine a lot, and as far as I'm concerned the phone is secondary to controlling the vehicle.

It's like most things while driving/riding. Some of us can do two or more things at once. I don't think we should be penalised because other people can't.
IF you answer honestly........
How many times have you missed your turn off the highway or the destination you're trying to find because you are talking on the phone ??
I know I have several times
and the second part of your answer justifies the NEED to have laws...........
I am of the age of pre breathaliser and still remember people saying they drive better after a few beers..........Ardvaark do you still get that said to you when breathtesting ?

It would certainly get a shitload of people off the road.....but what makes you think that people who are happy to break the law (use a phone) would not simply break the rules again and drive?

i think it would be more of a deterrant for more people, rather than getting people off the road it would make people think a little harder, you are right though, prople who would break the law are always going to.
The upside could be the people breaking the law would have to be more observant and this would achieve what we need anyway

Never. Drive first - phone second. Better for the caller to repeat him/herself than to ask, "what was that crashing noise? Hello? Hello..."

i do a shit loads of calls in the car while travelling. There is no way i'll sign for the noose thats gonna hang me one day.

Its a fact of life, people use mobiles whether its hands free or not and its still a distraction.

whats the next step, turn mobiles off before jumping in the car.

pull ur head out ur arse people.
