But you always here about celebs etc getting done for DUI and speeding etc but compared to an average person they get a slap on the wrist, and thats what shits me...

I agree that Celeb's get away with WAY to much crap and they should be given the same as EVERYONE else

Inappropriate speed kills... What this cop did WAS inappropriate as HE is supposed to be setting the example... not flauting his "super powers".
Each case should be taken on its own merits, doing 100 outside a school is a lot different to doing 200 on a highway.
If you speed outside a school, in town, or the like then you deserve it. But busting ppl for 10k (or 100 for that matter) on a open country road with no bugger but the cop hiding behind a tree is BS...
If you are not putting anyone but yourself at risk it should be taken into account.

Sorry Frog, its often a notch on the cops belt and she/he is a little closer to meeting the revenue target.

Mind you the police union would likely be up in arms if he did lose his job.

A guy who posted this on a different group (yahoo) and commented about the "different rules for different people" was immediately shouted down for "cop-bashing". Oh Puh-leese! The guy is a tool. He got off way too lightly IMHO.

If I pulled a dumb stunt like that I'd damn sure they'd lock me up, and my clean licence would be as useful in court as used poo tickets.

I believe the penalty in NSW for exceeding the speed limit by more 45km/h or more is:

Maximum fine of $2200 and minimum six months loss of licence.

However, I believe in NSW there is a scheme for those deemed to be habitual offenders. A habitual offender is someone who accumulates 3 convictions for serious offence within 5 years.

A serious traffic offence includes; driving at a dangerous speed or in a dangerous manner, furious driving, reckless driving, menacing driving, negligent driving where death or grievous bodily harm is occasioned, drink and drug driving offences, fail to stop and give assistance in an accident involving death or injury, driving whilst disqualified, cancelled, suspended or refused, or a conviction for an offence of exceeding the speed limit by more than 45km/h or a conviction for unlicensed, never licensed.

So, if you get caught 3 times in 5 years committing any of the above offences, then the penalty will be at the discretion of the courts.

During sentencing, the courts will take into account other things such as your criminal history, traffic history, good behaviour etc.
