Votes are in, looks like the SV1000 wins!

...plus there's only one Z1000 left in the warehouse and no Z750s at all . I have some finance to re-jig, the Z1000 will long gone by the time the Bank gets its arse into gear.

Nothing local, no-one has anything in stock, Race Replica have a Z1000 demo with a lots of added extras, but they are asking a bit more than I want to pay.

There is a ZRX up in Shepparton, but he's quoting me nearly $1700 for on-roads (above the price he quotes on Bikepoint).

Plenty of SVs at Peter Stevens, plus the 900cc Hornet.

Waiting for him to call me back. He still has 2 x Z1000s and a Z750. Bit of a bugger doing a trade-in though .

I spoke to Richard, he was a bit expensive, and there are ones here the same price.

I did find a dealer with a brand-spanker 2005 in stock, but even he was a bit expensive... Also found a few dealers in east of Melbourne that have both. I may go the Z750 as there seems to be plenty of those around, although the SV is much closer and at the end of the day I can't be buggered riding all over Melbourne.

Make sure you get what you *really* want, not something because its convenient. A z750 is a great bike, no doubt, but it is only a *750*.......Hunting around for a z1000 will pay off in the long run - just imho of course........

The problems are thus:

1. There is only one Z1000 (and no Z750s) in the Kawasaki warehouse. On the road I am looking about $14,200. I'll probably get ~$3k for the ZZR which take the edge off it, but I'm still up for around $11,000 changeover. By the time the Bank gets its arse in gear it'll be gone .
2. As well as the bike, I'm going to need a race stand for the rear, and I'd like Oggies and another Givi Topbox. I'm more likely to get these past Ros if I get a cheaper bike, not one which is right at the end of the budget she's expecting me to pay out...
3. The dealers who have got one in stock are not doing such great deals as they would have paid a higher price to Kawasaki for the bike pre-runout. I've come across a couple of 2005 models (which I prefer the colour of), they hold their price pretty well.
4. Narellan quoted $13,200 with no on-roads. I can get these done here, but I'd be up for frieght plus $32.60 for an inspection, $13.90 for a plate, $398.90 for rego and $520 in Stamp Duty...which is actually slightly more expensive than Melbourne (and I'd still have the bloody ZZR).
5. If I go the Z750, ZRX1200R or the SV I am up for a bit of a compromise. The SV is much better specced than the smaller Z on paper. The ZRX is not fuel injected. All need a hugger, I'm sick of road crap thrown everywhere. Prices are a bit of a mixed bag, the Z750 is about $10,300 on the road (if I'm willing to ride to Ferntree Gully). The SV1000 is about the $12,000 on the road. The ZRX is about $13,700.

Repair-wise, Kawasaki is not that common around here. Closest is Bendigo, but I hardly ever go there. Next closest is Cosways, but they can go screw. Then there's Race Replica or Brighton Kawasaki, both of which are a PITA to get to/from. Having said that, apart from Peter Stevens in Elizabeth Street (which are meant to be a bit shonky for repairs) I suppose Suzuki are the same boat...but at least I could get parts.

I just want a new bike . Too many farking choices, that's the problem...

you do have a lot of things to consider, thats for sure. My local dealer is only 20min ride away  makes things a bit easier.

Well, I wish you all the best in making the choice, one of the guys I work with has an SV650 and he loves it, I can only imagine the 1000 is much the same. Comfy, reliable and different enough so that you don't see one on every corner.......

I think its froggy12 who asks the question - Where is the Big Twin ?? :? They would sell a bucketload to brand-loyal nuts like us !!!

I've just spent an hour lurking in the problems and issues area of the Australian SV Forum and there is a disconcerting amount of SV1000s coming down with a clunk/rattle/'oh god I'm dying squeal' in the clutch basket which is (eventualy) replaced under warranty. I say eventually because Suzuki Australia is being a bunch of pricks about it. Bit of an eye-opener, it's certainly something that the dealers DON'T tell you when you're looking .

Going to the the personal finance guy on Monday at work, may have to see if the finance goes through, and see what's still out there when it's happened. Looking now is giving me heartburn :?.

A question. Given it's not being bought as an investment can anyone see an issue with picking up a new 2005? I actually prefer the colour over the blue (but not the black)...just a thought

My old mate up at Surfers has a shit-hot SV1000, I will send him a pm and ask for some tips'n'traps for this model. He has done a heap of work to it, and it goes like shit off a shiny shovel. If there are any *real* problems with the SV's, he will know. Stand by....

Thanks Gos, much obliged 8).

If it's at all possible I'd like to stick with a Kawasaki if there's any bloody left . I've had a surprisingly lucid chat with Ros earlier this evening and explained what I'll be up for come a new bike (i.e. topbox/oggies/rear stand and/or hugger) and she was surprising calm about it. Normally me rabbiting on about bikes has a few consequences.
1. She falls asleep (I'm not kidding, she drops off very quickly when she's tired, often at the most inopportune times :?).
2. She gets aggro because I am about to spend money on myself.
3. Her eyes glaze over and she changes the subject (or falls asleep).

I think she must be on something, and it will all wear off soon :P.

thanks again.

Mate, you may be onto something, maybe she doesn't like me, although she SHOULD have told me BEFORE we had three kids .

Yeah, sorry to put you guys through this again, but you can't rush into these things . I have come to realise though there is NO ideal bike, every bike is a compromise (except for those machines which cost more than a imported luxury European car) and it's a battle of what you want vs. what you get vs. how much are you willing to pay...

...and what you are willing to pay isn't always calculated in monetary terms .
