To be honest when i went to Canberra in late feburary i got some great impressions of the place. It basically felt like a big country town, very similar to Darwin. So i can't wait. Plus im going to love the weather for 8 months of the year.. No humidity!!! 8) I don't know how im going to go in winter.. I'm a born and bred territorian, so really 18 and below is bloody freezing for me.

Can anyone recommend some good winter riding gear? That offers decent protection and good thermal qualities? I currently have a dri-rider jacket the climate control one, and the thermal insert does jack shit, i think all it does is stop wind chill.

Also another question i want to pose to the Canberra residents...Paintball...I heard that you have two skirmish places there. Do the firearm laws in ACT allow people to own their own markers? Or can you only use the establishments gear. Unfortunately here in Darwin it is flat out illegal, so my trigger finger is itching to inflict some pain

There is at least one Paintball place, never tried it myself, but yeh, you can have a go when you move here. No idea on the details ...

Plenty of choice for cold-weather gear down here mate  , I can highly recommend Dri-Rider 'Highlander' gloves for winter, and on the 0deg or -5deg mornings ( get used to it), then a set of Damart thermolactyl inner gloves should be used as well . Any of the quality brand winter jackets (Rivet, Dri-Rider, etc) will do the job.

MG - we got porn and fireworks  blow me.

Yeah we do have 2 places for paint ball and both only allow for the establishment owned markers, got mine taken off me by the law and bent.
one is near queanbeyan where u have to be over 18 but eh one is tuggers allows for NSW laws and at 16 u can play so the annoying 16 yr old can be taken to paly on the opposite team.

My inlaws go paintballing every 3 months and always welcome a new player (s).

People think Canberra is very cold but you ask the other guys who ride here that it isn't that cold and most days are good enough to ride.

no use whinging about the cold cause none listens anyway.
Cheers
Paul

what, you mean the Brumbies ??

surely you aren't a fan of the 'Faiders' are you ? They *were* a good footy team back in the late 80's / early 90's, but have gone downhill, they are lucky to pull a crowd of 10,000, and sometimes only get 5 or 6 thou to a home game....

Even the Roos got almost 15,000 to their last game here - It is a far better game to watch live.

GO THE PIES !!

Never been a Raiders fan mate, I have supported Eastern Suburbs from 1974. (Not a fan of the Sydney Roosters 'name' I must say...)

I am surprised that they have finished in the top 8 for so many years, that is actually quite a surprise, they just don't have the same 'aura' here anymore that they did back in the glory years.......the Brumbies stole a lot of that thunder a few years ago.
