pssshh Who's taking about the positioning of the exhast??? undertails????

I'm talking about the finish and the stuby ass GP style exhausts. Have a look at the 2006 FZ1 exhaust, then you know what i'm taking about.

Z1000 exhausts look good, but they're useless, so much weight for no reason. If i bought one i'd 'go the extra mile and install 2 new slip on carbon Yoshi RS3's, K&N, rejett, and away you go. giddiup.

yep, the 72-76 model 900's all ran 4-4's. What a beautiful thing they are :P

Power Commander.

Funny thing fuel injection - the 'old' style EFI that is fitted to my '80 Z1000 is a closed-loop analogue system. It simply relies on air-flow through the motor to determine the duration of the fuel being injected. Air-flow is dependent upon a lot of things, the exhaust system being right at the top of the list.

I could ( and did) change exhaust systems like some people change underwear, and the EFI system would *automatically* take the increased airflow into account, and effectively re-jet itself to suit the improved air-flow. The old seat-of-the-pants dyno actually worked well, it was an instant feedback as to how the new system worked, where in the rev range it worked best etc etc. Just bolt up and away we go.......best exhaust system was the old 'Premier' 4-1. Awesome note, great power right through the range, absolutely screamed at top-end. ( we are talking 1980 here, so bear with me.....  )

No need for $500 PCIII's, endless custom maps and dyno sessions

My how we have *advanced* since 1980  And don't write the old Z off as a relic, it still hauls serious arse.......
