mina..did u ever change the box oil?? they are 2 strokes, have pre mix oil
inot the fuel for the motor, and there own box oil...2 strokes dont have the
engine braking of a 4 stroke, and often changing gears on them wont pull em
up at all...well , not much, they just scream louder...tho i would think the
take off wouldnt b sogood for the box..funnily enuf, newer bikes are getting
lighter, and dont seem to last like they use to (lighter parts means
weaker-tho with new technology, thats starting to change)

funy really, that my bike wont go into 2nd without the clutch UNLESS its on
one wheel...dunno if its because
a. the oil pickup is low like a duke or sum other technical reason
b. wen im on 1 wheel im ussualy flogging fark outta it & my revs are much
higher than theyd normally be?...

ummmm, I wouldn't recommend clutchless down changes.... and I don't know why you would want to anyway... It could cause damage and the possabilty of compression lock up becomes very high.... You have more control with your engine braking and revs if you use the clutch to down change...

next you ride.. try this.. say from 2nd to 3rd..
accelerate, apply some pressure on your gear selector, now when your ready to go up a gear simply back off the throttle and the selector will jump up a gear, and then apply throttle again..
Once you get the hang of it you can back off and go back on the throttle in a simple movement and change gears with your left foot at the same time. It's just a matter of good timing and abit of practice.

agreed
coz I don't know that anyone of us have 'slipper' clutches in our bikes...

as Dan suggested
but two comments
don't back off the throttle...too savage
ease off as you prod the gear lever up
and
can I suggest you do it between 3rd and 4th or 4 and 5th (at about 50-60kmh) as a start..
2-3 can be a bit harsh unless you are used to doing it
hth
cheers

Hmmm. More opinions on this than I expected. Nothing that convinces me otherwise though.
Track-days/racing is not what I'm querying here. As stated already, racers use the clutch on downshifts to control rear wheel speed & prevent compression lock-up.
Now it's not that I can't do clutch-less shifts, I just don't see why it is supposedly better or what the benefits are for use on the road.
How could it be
better for your gearbox to NOT use the clutch?
How many of you have seen just how small the dog-teeth are that engage the gears? I'd say that you would start using you clutch more if you did.
They are particularly small and easily damaged. I've done 2 gearbox rebuilds (ZZR600 & ZX6R) for a friend of mine. He
used to clutch-less shift, but no more. No more gearbox problems since then either.
Now I admit that by actually using the clutch, some clutch wear will result

but I'd rather replace my clutch than rebuild my gearbox. Especially as in 12+ years & 120,000k's of riding I've never had to replace a clutch. (Maybe I should hang on to a bike longer than 2-3 years then eh

)
So, any other takers? My fishing expedition is not yet over
BTW Neka, I know what you mean about your bike not wanting to shift 1st-2nd with the clutch, while on one wheel. I have had a similar experience with my SV650. Can't tell you what causes it though. Bit of a mystery
