There are no fixed speed cameras in QLD. Only mobile units which are moved from one designated 'hotspot' to another on a rotating basis.

By law, the officers' monitoring these systems have to follow certain guildelines such as specific warning signage and location (position from the kerbline, etc.) But these give no realistic warning to those riding/driving towards them, particularly if your focus is on moving objects on the road, not stationary objects beside them, such as grey hilux 4wds.

Hence the problem. Unless you are familiar with the hotspots, you have no idea where the cameras will be located until you are upon them.

Takes a bit of the fun out of a quick mountain blat.

My view is that all such a system will get you is extra attention from coppers who might happen to spot the perspex sheet over your plate while you're pulled up at a servo before a ride. Hell, all I do is keep my rego label fixed to a corner of my plate, and they never fail to give it a jiggle when they have a chat with me.

Very true. Best to try and keep the speed limit down to a respectable 'legal' level and just cop it sweet if you happen to get caught.

With police now focusing on sound emission as well as 'non-standard' accessories, the chances of having your pride and joy impounded on the side of the road whilst out enjoying Mt Glorious or Nebo are more realistic than ever.

Revtek, we have them at work, you can also get them from australian motorcycle components, RRP of about 400

But they do seem to be a little fragile? Had one returned recently due to a failure of the LCD

For $400 I reckon a gps, loaded with freely-available speed camera database may be a better option. It can do other things as well

Andy your missing the point from a Queensland perspective....they dont use a box on a post surrounded by signs that say speed camera here please dont speed.

We have a bunch of vans and 4wds that they park under bushes and in strange places and they move them around and the sign that they display is after the event and very small and put out there as a token gesture not as a genuine warning like the nsw ones.

I still reckon you would either have to have tunnel vision or be moving too fast to slow down before you get there to miss them but obviously they do take pictures of somebody.

The other hread sujests that theymiss a lot of car plates and the only thing i can think of is the ricers bend in the ends of their plates and it must work as well.

I read in the newspaper a while back that people were just getting their number plates so dirty with mud and the like, that they were un readable. Constituting a 50 dollar fine if caught. cheaper than a speeding ticket.

more than $50..i got collared in Adelaide...after riding back from the GP last yr.... he was talking abt $300 ...i didnt argue, i went in to a cafe and got a glass of water & a napkin..in front of him..b4 i left...

might be different over here... but i argued for abt 5 min saying "im not blocking the plate, its just muddy from a long wet ride"....
the cop wouldnt have it... he said he was gunna get me for

1.obscuring number plate $300 ish
2.lack of fender (defect)
3.de-facing a number plate (cant remeber cost of that)

if i didnt clean it...hence why i cleaned it...
