new lid time indeed.
KBC have a similar shape to arai and are much better value for money.
the VR2 has all the latest technology for about $350.

I go with Vince, i have two KBC's and they are both excellent (if a little noisy due to the vents etc.). The new ones is a gunfighter? matt black.... sweeeeeettttt....
I really like that I can have my head tucked in and still see out of the sucker...

I agree they do have a similiar shape to the Arai, however they don't have the fit of the Arai. I tried them on when I bought a new lid last year. So unless they have changed radically???????? Believe me, if they were $350 and fitted like an Arai, it would be residing on my head

Fungin Arai's!!!! Why does my head have to fit the most fungin expensive helmet god ever allowed man to build!!!!!!!!!!

Mate, I thought my head was like that.
The Arais don't suit my head shape, but I have since found an XL Shoei and AGV fit nicely

AGV have a "close" chin compared to the KBC (imho)
As you can see Col, go try em all on and buy the one that fits best.
If you can get a "test ride" for noise so much the better
BUT in this day and age they will all protect your head, its just down to looks, fit and price (in THAT order hahahaha)....

So what's the shelf life of an unused helmet. I've got a Shoei here that has spent 99% of it's life in a cupboard.

I've been a little disappointed with the VR2 (after owning the VR1). So far I've broken two visors, and have only had it for about 6 months... Not broken completely, but the tabs on the side that let it 'click' up and down are busted, so it doesn't stay open or shut properly.

Hmmm... tricky question. More than 5-6 years I wouldn't be keen on using them: the foam goes hard over time, and reduces it's ability to absorb an impact. I guess it's up to you on whether or not you think it's safe.

You mean the styrofoam?
