Sorry to hear about the fall Al, it worries me when I put my bike on a rear stand by myself, it is a bit tricky.

Ive had a similar problem. Riding my 02R6 from Darwin Port Augusta then Canberra, stopped at my Parents pubfor the night (thats another story) Reloaded the bike the next day, went in to finish my coffe and heard a crash. Went out to find the R6 having a little rest on its side. The stand went through the tar. Considered suing the old man for a sec but after all the beer he provided the night before I thought I'd let him off(definitely should have gone him for the hangover though).
Total damage bill, $800 and a hang over for 2 days.Broke the bkinker off and pushed it through the fairing, snapped stand, fairing scratched to buggery, bent clutch lever and a huge case of the shits.
And all after about 3000km trouble free, Lifes funny
I empathise with all who have seen there bike fall over and been powerless to stop it.
