Hi Roc,
Welcome!
I had the same discussion with hubby last night,
He went on the BMW icicle ride 12am-6am ride.
He took the old FZR600 due to the accidents that happened the year before (not him others) Wild life, ice etc.
I asked him if he felt funny being seen on it in such a large group etc.
he looked and me and tilted his head, and said yeah now that you think of it. You sometimes get weird looks.
But those who know him also know he rides zx6
He is ok with riding both bikes, it serves his purpose well. Commuter and play.
We (hubby and i) don't frown on what others ride or do or do not have.
But im sure there are people out there who do.
At the end of the day i think to myself, is it paid for? If it is then brag, till then the bank owns it.
I have no plans on up grading from a 250 in the near future. The bike i want doesn't come out in a larger size i like the look of.
Till then i will master some techiniques.
Enjoy riding you will love it.

Im another GPX learner mate and have yet to meet someone whos looks down on me for my L&P bike or tell me im a wannabe but they have mentioned cbr250rr as being the most wanked out and over-rated bike for learners so if you actually worry about what other people think be glad you don't ride one of those overpriced wanks.

Mate firstly welcome the the site, picked the best one everyone here helps everyone
About your question, from my experince the answer is no, i have a GPX RII 250 its a great lil bike and ive never been laughed or joked at always get a nod of the helmet from other riders and the odd thumbsup.
My ex gf was really into the car(die hard import fan) scene and a little while ago we went on a ride with a few of the members from here and after the ride she said that people on bikes are so much more friendly then the people into the car scene.
Anyway welcome to the world of 2 wheels

ok well if anyone was goin to get laughed at on the gpx 250 it would be me, with i now painted purple, modded and personal plates, oh and cant forget the frangipani stickers on the screen. though i dont, most people start talking to me about it and why i did it.
basically i say well i didn't the brother did.
i always get nods and waves, but then again knowing people in your area helps.
keep on riding and trust me no one laughs at 250 riders, we all started somewhere and usually on similar bikes.

Mate if they laugh at you cause youre on a 2 fitty then you dont want to know the wankers anyway.
Look at it this way, your 250 will smoke an SS anyway !!!
BUT now that you are here and a part of the "in" crowd you can expect to "bagged" pretty heavily.
The diff here being when you "bag" someone it is something that THEY are upset about but really SHOULD NOT be.
i.e. if someone IS overwieght you wouldnt do it, but if they THINK they are but arent BAG THE SUCKER !!!!
So in this context, there is nothing wrong with being on the 250, but if you get bagged and bite, you can BET that Kishy and Neka will make you suffer BIG time for it.
ps. if you dont have at LEAST a thou with NOS and a Turbo you are a big girly wet

Wow, sincere thanks to all of you for the positive and honest replies. It looks like I have stumbled into a friendly and helpfull forum of riders.
I introduced myself to an experianced elderly rider today ...member of Ulyssies club. He was so friendly and helpfull. Plucked the question to him bout my mixed feelings and he also said to me that it doesnt matter what you ride...its the experiance and fun that counts. Made me feel 1000 times better and now another 1000 times better after reading all the replies.
Went into a dealer today.....the guy knows I have a GPX........His only question was.' havnt seen around the streets....are you too embarrased to ride your 250 around...chuckle chuckle chuckle'
I said NO.....I enjoy the bike and when ready will move up a notch.
This is what pee's me off.
Anyways, sinceres thanks to all and again the forum is great keep up the great work admins and moderators.
I am an I.T. Engineer......anyone needs computer help or even any questions you cant get answered please feel free to PM or email me.
Cheers.

Dude, he's a dealer, he's sposed to make you dislike him, ffs the dealer i bought my bike previous to this one from was f(@*#ing DRUNK at 10am when he sold me the goddamned bike. Perfectly good way of improving my impression of him..
in all seriousness, either he thinks he's on better terms than he is, and is a bit of a tool, or just a f(#*ing wanker and not really worth you saying more to them than "uh huh, whatever, whats that shiny thing on the wall over there so i can waste 45 minutes of your time that could have been potential real sales?"

Yer i have small-weiner syndrome so i'm constantly out-riding myself on the 250 .... *sigh* But most people don't care, it's all about the fun and I think alot of motorcyclists view the roads differently than car types. It's too easy to take risks in a car whereas to challenge to road and come up trumps is a bloody good feeling on a motorbike.
That and you can always shit on about how many near misses you've had 'cause of some retarded cage drivers. Nothing like sharing near-death experiences
